How many orphaned profiles do you adopt?

What helps you decide who to adopt? Is it an area with which you are familiar, or a surname that is in your own tree, or the quantity of sources available?

Whatever you are comfortable with. Then when you have added sources and info, you can always Orphan them again. If you think they might eventually be connected to your family then maybe keep em!

I typically adopt orphans from one family or surname. I try to find sources for them all and connect them to others with the same surname.

But sometimes I adopt an orphan because the person has an interesting name. Like Zipporah, which is my cat's name. smiley

Love your last reason, Susan! wink

Usually I only adopt profiles that are somehow connected to my family. But then it doesn't matter how many steps there are between us. Currently I orphan far more profiles than I adopt, but when I create profiles because I source someone I am unrelated to, then I orphan them quite fast.

Usually, make that in caps, lol. I found today an article about the Serbian wife of Albert Einstein, checked her WT-profile, saw it was orphaned and adopted it. She was born in the town where one of my grandaunts married in, and seeing that was another dot to adopt her.

The wonderful thing is, you can adopt any profiles that appeal to you, whether because they share a surname or they were born in your hometown or any other reason. Personally, I tend to adopt profiles in my tree and also those from the two cities I grew up in. But feel free to adopt for any reason! :)

I'm curious. What is the reason for adopting an orphaned profile, making changes, and then orphaning it again? Unless you are changing the LNAB or the privacy/ownership information, what can you do as a PM that you cannot do without being a PM?
