Who was the wife of Philemon Clark?

There are two Philemon Clark’s on WikiTree. Clark-11091 and Clark-561. The first is said to have married Elizabeth Chandler, and the second Elizabeth Montanye. Neither one presents sources that verify either wife: One is based on a gedcom import and the other one Find-a-Grave and a number of census records that would not give her maiden name. Both Elizabeth’s have the same birth and death dates.

Philemon Clark did have a wife named Elizabeth, this is clear from her Find-a-grave memorial. The submitter says she is a Chandler, but provides no sources.

The “Michael Shoemaker Book” (1924; on Archive.org) says she is Elizabeth Montanye, partially, I assume because the author says John Montanye (father of an Elizabeth, whose surname is not in the will) calls Philemon Clark, “his son-in-law” as one of the executors. I read the will, which is on Ancestry (Pennsylvania probate records) and this is incorrect: Philemon is only a witness, with no stated relationship.

This website, https://www.genealogieonline.nl/en/genealogie-richard-remme/I389438.php, says she is Elizabeth Chandler, and merely says this was proved by Kari Mohn, but provides no citation for this proof.

Family Search/Family Tree confounds the issue by calling her Elizabeth Chandler Montanye, providing no sources for her.

I have found no primary sources that connect either Elizabeth to Philemon.

Is anyone aware of any primary sources that identify the wife of Philemon?

Thanks. I took a look, and there are sketches on these two families, but no Philemon. Philemon died in the late 1850s, perhaps his children moved away, or just did not contribute to the book.

Sorry, I read through some of of the History of Luzerne, and the Table of Contents did not have any Clark's, Chandlers or Montanye in it.  I also checked on Ancestory.com and Family Search and did not find any sources either.

Maybe someone will have better luck that I did.

Have a blessed Tuesday.

Thank you Susan, for selecting my answer, even though I was not successful.
Thank you for trying. Elizabeth is elusive! Some folks are long opinions and short on facts!
No problem, George. Elizabeth is as elusive as my great grandfather James Smith.
