Which tree image do you prefer for your Nav Home Page? [closed]

Hi WikiTreers,

We recently switched background images for the tree on Navigation Home Pages (if you have the tree set to appear in your Settings). Some members really hated the new image. It fits the WikiTree style better, but it's very "tech" looking. See the third image below.

Some prefer the old one. I find the old one looks a bit too much like veins. See the second image below.

The first one is a quick demo of something different. If people like that we could do a cleaner version of it. Maybe a little less crooked and spikey.

If people's tastes vary a lot, we can do what was suggested in the other thread: enable you to select which tree you want to use. That shouldn't be hard, but we have a lot of other technical improvements on the to-do list.

In the meantime we've switched back to what we had before, i.e. the second image below.

numero dos
Ditto!
I like the first best as it looks more like a tree and is bulky but I also like number two because of its two colours rather than the three. So number one with two colors.
The first looks like a cabbage.
I like the first and second one.  Second one more, maybe because I have seen more of it?  I do like the idea of choosing my own tree also!

I like Erin's suggestion of the second image in the new colors.

My problem with the current tree image #3, besides that the photos or blank rectangles look strange on top of the circles, is that it looks like the different colors ought to mean something.  (The fact that it appeared about when the DNA features were being rolled out contributed to this.)  I thought it might be showing DNA lines, but I couldn't figure out why the paternal grandfather got a special color for the Y-DNA when the maternal grandmother didn't for the mtDNA.
I do not mind the "veins" look but prefer the original tree but I definately do not like the "Balloon" option.
less is more

when the design is too "busy", it distracts from its purpose.
All I’m seeing is a blank outlined box
Could be because this is a thread from 2014...

Why not the second image, but in the new colours?

(I never thought it looked like veins before you mentioned it, but the blue and pink definitely makes it look like an anatomical diagram. I actually kind of like that - the blood that flows through all of us, and all that.)

If the new colors had system to them (different colors for each generation perhaps) that might be OK, but they seem random.
I like your idea.

I prefer the original, bare tree, Unless, of course, there is symbolism in the leaffy tree that I've missed. Even then, I think I prefer the original, I do not feel that change for its own sake is a valid reason to change.

The first of the second works for me. Second is best...more like how we think of trees

Not the green color though that is on #3.  Pink reminds us of female inheritance, and blue - Male inheritance..

I'm OK with any of them, but agree with others that the rectangular images don't look as good on the very round bubbles of the newer tree image. I think my favourite in terms of shape is probably the newly-suggested first image.

But what I do like about the new (techy) one is that it uses green and orange instead of blue and pink. As anyone who knows me will attest, blue for boys and pink for girls tends to make me grumble. :)

I like the 2nd, old version.  Thanks for putting it back in operation.

The first one is too busy and I can't figure out the color code.  Maternal side, paternal side, but what is the green in the middle?

An option would be best, but I will still choose the old version.  Thanks for the change, Chris!  You guys are the best!

I think I like the second which is the old one. I do have a problem with it. That is: the branches go from me to my parents and from me to my grandparents. I think they should go from me to my parents then from my parents to my grandparents. As it is now, if you follow the lines, you have three sets of parents instead of parents and two sets of grandparents. The other two trees are better at showing the correct relationship.

I like the second one best, the first one second.   I also never thought of veins/arteries either, until you mentioned it.

I like the second one, it is a clearer image than the one on top.  More white space.  The last one is a bit too geometric for me.
