Merge proposals not showing up in profile change logs?

I received a couple of email notifications today regarding merges that had been completed:

  • A merge of Susannah Bowditch (Bowditch-34) and Susannah Bowditch (Bowditch-6) was just completed by S Stevenson.
  • A merge of Ebenezer Hunt (Hunt-1515) and Ebenezer Hunt (Hunt-1430) was just completed by S Stevenson.

I can't tell why I was notified of these merges. Initially I assumed that I must have proposed these merges, but I can't find any evidence of that in the pre-merge change histories (nor the messages displayed on the profiles) for any of the four profiles. Indeed, there's no log of anyone proposing these merges. Also, I'm not a profile manager for either person's profile (nor on the Trusted Lists).

Are proposed merges not being logged consistently? Or am I somehow recorded as the proposer of these merges (maybe because I proposed a merge for an ancestor?) even though I didn't propose them directly?

laughWelcome to WT, Ellen, where it is known that strange and wonderous events occur to confound all PM sooner or later.

Since you did a little cleanup on the Bowditch-6 profile, it was a good thing that you got that email.  Little gremlins knew it needed a little more care after the merge!!

That's related to why I thought this could be a "feature." yes

But I've now added "bugs" to the tags, since I don't think this is by design.

Hi Ellen, pretty sure those were orphan profiles, and no merges were proposed. system allowed merges due to them being orphans.

agreed, see no reason why you received the emails.

maybe add the ‘bugs’ tag

Ah, good point about these being orphan profiles. Thanks for doing the merges!

I haven't added the bugs tag just yet because I have a suspicion that this is a "feature"...
Hmmph … I seem to vaguely remember in the distant past when I worked on this kind of stuff that "undocumented feature" was the politically correct way of saying "bug".

laughIs OK Gaile, a little sandpaper, some glue, and a coat of paint and you can sell the Old&Decrepit as something Antique and worth 10x the cost of fixing it up.

Well, I figure it might deserve to be called a feature. I didn't object to receiving those emails because these are people who probably are distantly related to me, and I've worked on improving profiles for people in their local community...
