James Jackson b 1602 d 1667 How did he get to u.s.a. from barbados ?

The magic of the Internet?  The sources on this profile don’t seem to correlate with the person.  For example, Guilford,  North Carolina didn’t exist in the 1600’s.  North Carolina was not settled by  Europeans until 1653.  The sources seem to be all over the place so it’s hard to know who this profile is meant to be.  They are from an Ancestry tree that attached any record with the name “James Jackson” regardless of year or place to this “person.”  

There are several men named James Jackson in early Virginia, one got land in 1645 for transporting himself, one was used as a headright by another man in 1651, there are others in 1658.  Looks like you need to do some digging to figure this man out!

Can something be done about uploading Gedcom files with  so many collateral family?  It appears some people do not clean up their tree before uploading, and only care about their direct ancestors which leaves those profiles  with no sources or perhaps profile managers.

We often recommend that people begin by uploading only a few well-documented family members to begin so that they can learn how to do cleanup.  There are more restrictions on Gedcoms now, but in the past people were able to upload large Gedcoms with few restrictions.  I think a lot of folks have uploaded Gedcoms and then found out how much work is involved in cleanup so they just give up.
