I am trying to find evidence of a patriot in my family tree so that I can join the Daughters of the American Revolution. Frederick Sergeant Boon is my 5th great-grandfather. He is the right age to have served in that war. Then, it hit me like a ton of bricks today that the "Sergeant" in the name I have for him is possibly what he was called even after his possible duty in the war was over....as in on my dad's tombstone is says: Gerard "Jerry" Schroeder. Jerry was his nickname, so I wonder if Sergeant was Frederick's nickname after the war. How can I find this out?
The info I have for him is:
born 1755, Halifax, Halifax NC, USA, son of Thomas Boon and Hannah Atkinson
married Sarah Dingley, South Carolina, 1772
father of William H Billy Boon-1775 to 1840; Sarah Ann Boon-1783 to 1830; Margaret Boon 1795 to 1861
died 1795 in Burke, Georgia, USA
Thank you for your help!
