Is it possible that Frederick Sergeant Boon served as a sergeant in the American Revolution?

I am trying to find evidence of a patriot in my family tree so that I can join the Daughters of the American Revolution.  Frederick Sergeant Boon is my 5th great-grandfather.  He is the right age to have served in that war.  Then, it hit me like a ton of bricks today that the "Sergeant" in the name I have for him is possibly what he was called even after his possible duty in the war was over....as in on my dad's tombstone is says: Gerard "Jerry" Schroeder.  Jerry was his nickname, so I wonder if Sergeant was Frederick's nickname after the war.  How can I find this out?

The info I have for him is:

born 1755, Halifax, Halifax NC, USA, son of Thomas Boon and Hannah Atkinson

married Sarah Dingley, South Carolina, 1772

father of William H Billy Boon-1775 to 1840; Sarah Ann Boon-1783 to 1830; Margaret Boon 1795 to 1861

died 1795 in Burke, Georgia, USA

Thank you for your help!

I may have some good news for you!

In the publication entitled "Roster of South Carolina Patriots in the American Revolution" there is a Frederick Boone listed on page 83. Quoting the entire entry for him is as follows:

Boone, Frederick

He served in the militia as a private and sergeant in Col. Water's regiment. A.A.614; U183.

I hope this helps!

Bryan

NOTE: Col Waters first name is Philemon and the regiment was called the 1st Spartan Regiment.

I just saw your response...thank you so much for your help. The registrar for my DAR chapter was able to prove that the legendary Daniel Boone is my 6th Great grandfather, so I was able to join. However, I will be happy to add another Patriot to my ancestry. Thank you again!
