Greetings!

My name is Stef Anderson and I am addicted to Genealogy. I'm fairly new. I've been compiling a database offline in RootsMagic.

My first project (I guess I would call it) is to trace my mother's mother's line. My mother's mother's mother's mother and so on. I do research the entire family along the way because it's so difficult to get a full picture just focusing on the person.

So far, I'm to my 4x great-grandmother. The surnames I'm focused right now are WEBER and REUSSWIG from Utica, New York. Most of my WEBER family settled in Minnesota and North Dakota with what appears to be a massive migration to Oregon (many related families over a handful of years). They settled in Silverton, Oregon and have been populating the Northwest US ever since.

Sometimes, I feel like I'm spending my time doing unproductive things. Other times, I wonder why I spend so much time doing any of this. Usually, I really enjoy growing my database of story facts. I also really enjoy learning about history along the way.

Pleasure to be here! Hope I can help!

Welcome!    My Webers emigrated from Germany to Wisconsin in the 1869-1870 era and my grandfather came to Oregon and settled in the Newberg area.  I live in Portland.

Here is a site that may help you, coming from Utica.
nyshistoricnewspapers.org.  Not all papers, but I often find an
article when nothing else is available.  I also live in upstate
New York.  Ask for help here if you need help.  Everyone is friendly and will jump in if they can help you.

Thanks for the link! That's a gem. I've spent a lot of time perusing newspapers... have hundreds of stories across a couple generations so far. Like yesterday's Facebook :) I didn't have this resource so thanks again!

Hey Stef,

Welcome to WikiTree! I'm a neighbor to your north in BC. Happy to help if any of your family traveled north or if you need help learning the ropes here.

Hi, Stephanie and welcome.  I live in Everett, Washington and have roots in Oregon.  I run across Webers related by marriage ever so often, who lived in Linn County, Oregon and came from Illinois.  I will let you know if I find any in Marion County.

Hi, Stef:

I just today began working on the Weber One Name Study Project. I've done a lot of research on my line of Webers. They were mostly German from Switzerland. Welcome!

Thanks James. I see and knight and a baron and me getting lost in that arm of my family for quite awhile. I'm actually currently watching the Tudors, and I think one of these people are actually in that show. Thanks so much for sharing! Look forward to learning more!

I've done quite a bit of time looking into my Mother's family who were early settlers in Oregon Territory. As far as the never ending hunt goes, it's more about the stories and putting order to what time has hidden. I take breaks away from research but normally return with a zeal. This tree we are building is a fun ongoing project and I'm glad you've joined us!! -Rachel

I'm also in Washington state (near Seattle), but probably can't be of in direct help for your families. My own family is from the South, Texas, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, etc.

Wished we had some sort of periodic in-person meetup where we could get together and help each other out.

Wow Stef, my great grandfather Kasper Ernst Weber came from Schleswig-Holstein, Germany to Minnesota in abt. 1850 and many of his children moved to Oregon later.

Keep your nose to the grindstone and facts will magically appear.

I also have ancestors from Lynn Co., Oregon by the name of Wright Hazel Wright (Ashland, OR) m. Arthur O Weber (my grandad). Fun right!

Let me know how to help,
