Philip Wingate 1705-1759 5th and 6th great grandchildren DNA matches

Hi! Are we getting DNA matches to 6th and 7th cousins?

I am using ancestry.com DNA. Today I found two DNA matches to my mother off the Philip Wingate line. I found his probate listing two grandchildren Wingate Cannon and Wingate Jones. The grandchildren had to have been born before 1757.  My mom's line goes through Philip Wingate 1743-1798, her 5th great grandfather. My moms (36cM 2 segment) 7th DNA cousin match goes through Thomas Wingate 1735-1775 to Smith Wingate 1759-1799. This DNA match is a 6th great grandaughter of Philip Wingate 1705-1759. The second DNA match is a 23cM one segment 6th cousin one times removed. The second line goes through a daughter of Philip Wingate who married Zachariah Jones.  Philip had 5 daughters listed in his probate Tabitha married Elijah Cannon, Rachell, Leurinah, Leah and Lorie.  I guessed the line to be through Leah Wingate.  Zachariah had a daughter named Leah Jones, named after the mother Leah Wingate? The second DNA match would be a 5th great grandchild to Philip Wingate.

April,  I haven't found a Phillip Wingate in my line, but I can't get beyond my 4Ggrandfather, an Edward Wingate born 1788, I'm not sure where, either SC or NC most likely...census records record SC as birthplace.  We cannot get a YDNA to test with his line, because he had 4 sisters and 4 daughters...I haven't been able to find a direct male line to do DNA for Wingate.  All the male cousins and uncles of his died before DNA became the way to find ancestors.  If you think your line matches Manley Asa Wingate, perhaps you could share some DNA results? Have you matched with any Potters?  I have matched some on Gedmatch, pretty far back, but I think Edward's mother may have been a Potter...any suggestions?? Kathy Wingate
