Stanfield / Stansfield / Stansfeld family resource

I am providing at the bottom of this question a link to an open source book of Stanfield family history.  This is a wonderful resource - you can download it to your computer and search it.

However, it's left me with many questions;  I have been following hints and other people's info here and on Ancestry and thought that my family tree was reaching back to Stansfeld-78 (Gideon Stansfeld) through Stanfield-40 (Robert Stanfield).  This seems to be the same path that many others have taken, and I am trying to be sure that it is correct, and not just follow the herd.

The problem is that the family history, which I have to take as the fact, shows that the Robert Stansfeld in Gideon's family line died in England in 1885, and not in the US colonies.  That varies greatly with most of the family trees I've seen which reach back to Gideon Stansfeld.

I hope I've at least made some sense.  If anyone out there has any enlightenment on this or tips on confirming the details, I'd welcome the help.  I've been on WikiTree about 3 weeks, so I'm a newbie  Thanks in advance!  Here's the link:

You might try searching for this family in the major genealogy publications (NEHGR, TAG (aka The American Genealogist), among several others), perhaps focusing on those specializing in Southern genealogy. PERSI (see https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Periodical_Source_Index_(PERSI) for more info) may be helpful.

The Virginia Genealogical Society, and its publication, may be helpful.

Indexes to these may be available at public libraries, or as a “premium” website via Family Search at any LDS Family History Center (not available from home). Findmypast may be helpful.

This could help validate the information in your source. Based on what you provide in your question there may be an error, or possibly an omission.
