I look after the Irving/Irvine entries into Wikitree.

I am curious about how the numbers of Irving's are counted within Wikitree.  Currently when I ask the search system it currently says IRVING's within Wikitree are about 2495, yet my last entry, Walter Irving, was Irving-2634.

Why is there a lag in the numbers. Shouldn't the system simply extract the number 2634 from the last entry? The search system would say IRVING's 2634.  I would have though a simply task for a programmer to do.

I would guess at least some of those have been merged away.  I don't think WT recycles ID#s.
Melanie, you did it again, girlfriend!!!  Provided a perfect answer but did it as a comment so nobody can upvote or select it.
I was too busy copying the question and pasting it to a text document so I could actually read it to worry about answer or comment!
Sure, accidentally entered duplicates may account for the different numbers - they got merged
