Martha Mathews as Child of John and Mary (Johnson) Matthews

Martha Matthews - can't view the linked Ancestry source and don't see any other supporting information.

I'm very puzzled by this addition to my family. Savage's genealogy records 5 (not 6!) children. The only Martha mentioned by Savage is a daughter to Francis, but he died in 1647.

I've poured over the Vital Records for Marlborough -- even Westborough and Southborough. None of these record a birth for this Martha. I searched for Matthews, Matthewes, Mathis and Mathews. I found the 5 children mentioned by Savage.

I don't understand how the GED import process works. Shouldn't there be other sources? Without a marriage or death date, how do they even know this person existed?

I reformatted the Ancestry link and cleaned up the Ancestry stuff.  However, even reformatted, the Ancestry tree is no longer available, cannot be checked.  I added the Unsourced label, because there are no sources now, and the unavailability of the Ancestry tree makes it impossible to check for sources there.

Using the current dates of Martha and John (the father) - Martha cannot be his daughter.  She's born in 1698 and he died in late 1696.  However, I don't see good sources for his date of death, and there are conflicting dates for him.  It's possible the 2 proposed death dates imply a second John Matthews, one who could be the father of Martha.

(The father could use some Ancestry cleanup and link reformatting too.)

Yes there is a problem with John's profile. He did not die in 1696. He married Sarah Garfield in 1713 per Savage's genealogy. Vital records of Marlborough and Southborough do not have a death date for John, though Marlborough has his wife Mary's death in 1710 and his marriage to Sarah Gaffield in 1713.

I'm not pre-1700 certified so I cannot fix the mess.
