Having trouble with dates in South Carolina

I have been working on a jewish family that originally came from Charleston, South carolina, moved to New Orleans, Louisiana. One branch later moved to Galveston and Waco in Texas, while another branch moved to California.

My problem is that I am unable to find a correct DOB for the one person who connects this family from NOLA back to SC. The dates dont match up.

When I try to connect the daughter from NOLA to her father in SC, I get this big fat red sign that says the father died more than 9 months before this child was born!!

The daughter is Amelia Labatt nee Marks. Every date I have says she was born in 1806.

Amelia (aka Anna) Labatt

Amelia's father, Samuel Marks died in 1804. I have no proof for that other than one brief mention in a DAR book.

Samuel Marks (aka Marques)

Can anyone find a record where the dates overlap so I can make this connection?

Thank you.

Thank you but I am not looking for dates of the husband. I am looking for dates for either of Amelia's birth in SC. or her fathers death in SC.

Yes this census record says she was born in 1808. That is 4 years after her father supposedly died in SC. They do not overlap.
You have her born 1806, the census says 1808, so what’s to say she wasn’t actually born 1804 or earlier?
I agree, it is quite possible - but there is no proof?

I think I may fudge the dates and have her born in 1804, just so I can make the connection.

But everywhere I look, even on the Geni tree, that gap persists. its like peoples maths and logic skills just disappear... LOL

The family is listed in here, but only some males:

https://archive.org/details/jewsofsouthcarol00elzauoft/page/132

Because the dates are Colonial, I'd also suggest searching here if you have the time:

https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/007854951

But of course, I don't know how involved you are with the family. The South Carolina Genealogical magazine is very good with unusual stories.

The more recent issues are here, if you have a sub:

I am not that involved. I am not jewish myself.

But I started all this by doing a profile on Maxine Stuart, who was the best friend of one of my favourite authors, Helene Hanff.

And Maxine's family were well documented, so I kept going!! :)

I will have a look at your links.

Thanks Dina.
