I am seeking a little assistance from Canadian members please. I have an Alfred Griffiths b. 1892 (son of Richard and Anne Griffiths), with siblings Edward b. 0ct 1884, Florence b. 1886, Richard b. 1889, and William b. 1895, who married Daisy Letitia Field (b. Quebec 12 Sep 1893), to whom I am very distantly related. Richard senior may have origins in Wales.
The origins of Alfred are sought. It would appear that the mother and five children migrated to Canada on board the SS Numidian, departing Liverpool 29 June 1889. It would also appear the children originated in Lancashire, but I can only find this set of children born to mother maiden name Griffiths. It is conceivable that Richard and Ann either shared the same surname or that the children were born out of wedlock, because no marriage was found (that fits).
Confirmation is sought of the arrivals of the family in Montreal Canada, but am not having much success. I am hopeful that the mother’s maiden name be confirmed, to enable tracking back on any marriage between Richard and Anne, and their parentage in possibly in Wales.
I would also like to establish a marriage date and place for Alfred to Daisy – the both appear in Canadian Census 1901 in the Hochelaga, Quebec district.
Any information on descendants would of course be very welcome. I am struggling a little to come to grips with Canadian ancestry sources.
Andrew
