2 profiles with same number [closed]

Question

I found the surname for Unknown-415482, and as she had no PM I adopted her profile and changed the surname, which is now Clout-268.

However, when looking at her husband's profile, Odlum-34, Clout-268 is listed twice as his wife.

Because they are the same number, they cannot be merged.

When looking back on contributions, the only thing I can see different is a REDIRECT message that I have no idea what that is or even means.

One is a "ghost" of the other.  Just go into edit mode on the husband and disconnect the "unknown" wife.

I had also thought about just deleting 1 of the profiles, but that would mean 1 would be in cyberspace and an orphaned profile. Am I correct in thinking that? It's a bit hard to get one's head around when all details are the same.

I didn't see the problem before it got fixed, but if you were allowed to delete, I think it would have deleted both copies. But Wikitree doesn't allow members to delete any profiles ... you have to merge one away.

I'm pretty sure the LNAB change (which essentially creates a new profile/merges the existing "Unknown" into the new name) is what created the ghost profile, as it was attached to the husband at the time.
