Remove a non-member unlisted person

How do I remove an unlisted person? I added these family members as Red (Private) person before the new rules came into effect. Now I wish to either (a) recycle the last name by adding them to recycle unknowns or (b) completely remove the profile.

I've removed all pertinent information from the profile, added it to the Recycle Unknowns category but am unable to change the Privacy to Open because the person formerly referenced in the profile was never a member. The profile in question is still in the Unlisted Category.

I've also got other family members that I need to remove as well.

smiley I suggest that perhaps some part of your answer could be found in the posts below yours and it deals with removals, and the unlisted and other such corners we can "paint ourselves into"

Thanks Susan but none of them quite fits. I was trying to be a tidy wikitree person by recycling the last name but now I think the profile should just be deleted.

crying Unfortunately, if you mean by "delete" as to obliterate all presence in the realm of Wikitree, no, cannot obliterate. That leaves "recycle"

Once a person is profile forever after (unless the whole of WT crashes) that record's position, with or without (recycled) information remains ... that's why the format for it can be recycled

The format is distinct from the person -- the format is a template with a series of assertions ... the format itself occupies a "space" in the computer records ... when recycled it is given new assertions etc but the "space" occupied is unchanged

I don't think I'm explaining this very clearly, though -- you can search g2g for posts on "can I delete this profile", "deleting a profile" and other such terms involving "delete" and I suspect several hundreds of posts could be located

Yes, I understand that. Which is why I was trying to recycle, change privacy to open, and then orphan it. I got stuck at changing the privacy.
Thanks Eddie. The new rules for the EU caught me with a number of unlisted that need to be removed. The persons they refer to have no wish to be members.

You can send a message to info@wikitree and ask that the profile be removed and the reason why you need it removed. WikiTree has no option for deleting a profile once it has been created.

As I understand it, a Wikitree manager can remove a profile; what I have done before is (after assuring that it is a bogus person) to merge it into another profile and make sure the original profile is not changed.

Rosemary, after you remove the birth date, you should be able to change privacy.  If you still can't do that then all I can suggest is writing to info @ wikitree.com (without the spaces).

Thanks Gaile. First thing I did was remove all dates and other data and I'm still stuck here in limbo.

I've a number of these I added before the new rules and now I'm trying to get rid of them in case something happens to me. I'm not getting any younger.
Huh, wonder why I got a red flag for an innocuous reply to Gaile. I'm gong to assume it was meant to be a vote in favour of it.
