This ancestor, Unknown-196462, has a recorded last name at birth, but I cannot edit the field.  How do I proceed?

Only the profile manager or someone on the trusted list can edit that field. Your best bet is to forward your information to the profile manager so that they can make the change if it checks out.

You can:

a) contact the profile manager to make the change. Make sure to provide your source to make a convincing argument.

or

b) put your information, including the source, in the public comments on the profile page.

You may be able to ask to be put on the trusted list to make the changes yourself, but I am not sure this gives you the ability to change the LNAB - or if only the profile manager can do this. But since you are contacting the manager anyway, they may as well make the change, right?
Not only the PM.  It can be someone on the Trusted List too.
