WikiTreer Dirk Laurie passed away this morning

But for those who may not follow the South African Roots tag I wanted to let everyone know that Dirk Laurie passed away this morning. 

He was a great contributor to WikiTree and the South African project and will be missed. 

Our condolences to his family and friends.

I remember Dirk for his sharp wit. He knew his Latin. He had issues with HypertextMarkupSyntax but this did not stop him from contributing to WikiTree. He often jousted with me, sometimes agreeing other times disagreeing. He had a fiery but kind spirit. Rest in Peace Dirk.

I do not recall ever interacting with Dirk, but my thoughts are with those who knew and loved him.

A candle is lit for remembrance.

And, if I may paraphrase from one of the greats (John Donne) with what could (should?) be a genealogist's creed:

No person is an island, entire of itself; every person is a piece of the continent, a part of the main . . . Any person’s death diminishes me, and us, because I am, we are, involved in humankind.

My heart goes out to his family and friends.  I like to think he is going to a wonderful ancestor party getting all those answers that eluded him here.   Prayers going out for him and his family.
