Any information on Amable Petit from Michilimackinac 1790s would be appreciated. He had a daughter Amable Marie Louise Petit (Lamarche) who was born in september of 1789 in Michilimackinac. She is my ancestor through the Ranger family in Mattawa, Ontario.

Michimilimackinac was a fort on the North West Side of the Mackinac Bridge in Lower Michigan. There was also a fort on Mackinac (turtle), Island. Located on the North East side of the Mackinac Bridge. It is located on Lake Huron. You can find information for a relative either in Mackinaw City, Mi or St Ignace, Michigan. I will look for you. The fur traders traded their wares in either fort. Mackinac Island has its own record's and is a national historical site...will search for your family.

Try "Nos Origines" for pointers. I know that there are a couple of Amable Petits on it for that time frame but can't access it from where I am right now.

Also, there is a publication: Marthe Faribault-Beauregard, La Population des forts français d'Amérique (XVIIIe siècle), répertoire des baptêmes, mariages et sépultures célébrés dans les forts et les établissements français en Amérique du Nord au XVIIIe siècle. Editions Bergeron, 1982 (t. 1), 1984 (t. 2)

Fort Michilimakinac is in vol. 1, births are listed from 1695 - 1821, marriages 1725 - 1821, deaths 1743 - 1806. Again, unable to access it right now. Perhaps you can get it through interlibrary loan.

Thank you, none of the Amable Petit listings on nos origins seem to link my Amable to Marie Louise, except for the one that lists marguerite Poirier as the wife of Amable, but she was also his mother in law... So I tend to believe those who say she is there in error.
Do you have access to the Drouin Collection? To my knowledge it is only available on pay sites like ancestry.com, but some genealogical societies as well as many public libraries provide access.
