How many husbands for Elizabeth Unknown of early Rhode Island?

Reviewing a proposed merge of two profiles for William England, early inhabitant of Rhode Island about whom little is currently known, I looked at the profile of his wife Elizabeth.

Looking at the various citations on her profile and those (some incorrect) on the two profiles of her first husband William, it appears there are multiple conflations. She has been given a second husband Wood although the support for this is perhaps dubious (one of the citations pertains to the country England but she was already in the colony). NEHGR 149:69 discusses the conflation of two different individuals named Hugh Parsons, one of which was probably the second husband of this Elizabeth Unknown in question.

If anyone has access to this article by Hoff, it might help shed some light on this. Henry B. Hoff, "Elizabeth (Wood) Doty and Susanna (Wood) (England) Carpenter of Rhode Island and Long Island: Daughters of John Wood, Not William England," The Mayflower Descendants, Vol. 54 (Winter 2005) 27-28.

It appears these profiles may involve multiple conflations which it appears will also mean untangling the offspring at some point. Assistance in parsing the various scholarly citations and identifying exactly to whom they apply would be appreciated if a couple of our Rhode Island Project members would like to help with this.

Many thanks. smiley

The Hoff article establishes the father of the two daughters as being John Wood and not William England as frequently seen.

So, the question still left (and I don't see that Hoff says one way or another) is whether this Elizabeth Unknown was first married to William England (to be merged with the duplicate William England) or whether that is an entirely different Elizabeth Unknown?

Jillaine has a caution on Wood-114 so double checking all of this.

Current research shows that Elizabeth Unknown, wife of William England, is not the same Elizabeth Unknown who married John Wood and Hugh Parsons. When the William England profiles are merged, one of the Elizabeth Unknown profiles will be left attached as his wife. The other Elizabeth Unknown profile will remain as wife of Wood and Parsons but be detached from William England with a notice/citation to NEHGR and Hoff's article for Mayflower Descendant (V54:1 p 27-28) so that the conflation is not repeated.
Thank you T
