Reviewing a proposed merge of two profiles for William England, early inhabitant of Rhode Island about whom little is currently known, I looked at the profile of his wife Elizabeth.
Looking at the various citations on her profile and those (some incorrect) on the two profiles of her first husband William, it appears there are multiple conflations. She has been given a second husband Wood although the support for this is perhaps dubious (one of the citations pertains to the country England but she was already in the colony). NEHGR 149:69 discusses the conflation of two different individuals named Hugh Parsons, one of which was probably the second husband of this Elizabeth Unknown in question.
If anyone has access to this article by Hoff, it might help shed some light on this. Henry B. Hoff, "Elizabeth (Wood) Doty and Susanna (Wood) (England) Carpenter of Rhode Island and Long Island: Daughters of John Wood, Not William England," The Mayflower Descendants, Vol. 54 (Winter 2005) 27-28.
It appears these profiles may involve multiple conflations which it appears will also mean untangling the offspring at some point. Assistance in parsing the various scholarly citations and identifying exactly to whom they apply would be appreciated if a couple of our Rhode Island Project members would like to help with this.
