That makes Isaac 10y when Nelson was born, though.  Does that makes sense?  Any idea why the 1890 US census is missing from records?

I appreciate the help, by the way.  I owe you a steak.

This is not going to help sort out your dilemma, but I think you may have names mixed up.  Nathan Armstrong married  Cursa/Coursey/ Cursy Charlotte Franklin

There are numerous census records of this couple as well as other records.  They had a son Isaac b. abt 1863.  No son Nelson.  I wasn't able to find a wife for Isaac other than the last name on Nelson's death record.  It doesn't seem possible that Nelson is the son of Isaac, and he is not listed as a child of Cursa and Nathan?

Yeah, I've got all those records but cannot find Nelson anywhere.  On his death certificate, we have that his father was an Isaac Armstrong (no middle initial).  For his mother, it lists a marked out first name (illegible)  with a question mark and the word "Cornelison".  Both parents are from Alabama acc to the death records.  I have no other traces of Nelson outside of his WWI registration and census reports from the early 1900's in Texas that would give us his full name or his parents.

We guess his name was "Allawishes" as it was in a family bible, but we've also seen "Aloysius" as a common name during that time period.  I've done an AncestryDNA test, but so far there are zero connections to any leads.

There is another Isaac Armstrong in Blount Co, Alabama, listed as "Isaac Harper Armstrong" but again no "Nelson" shows up anywhere and I don't see a "Cornelison" listed in his census reports so far.

This is all I have to go on.  Any ideas on this?  We have no employment records as he was a farmer his entire life except for the K-M-T railroad, which didn't keep employment records.

I really appreciate all of you helping on this.  Believe it or not, this is something my family has worked on since 1989.
