Is it ok to post a screen grab from a website?

I am pretty much just looking for confirmation a screen grab from a website, say Find A Grave, is a copyright infringement and needs to be removed.

It is being used as a source.  Under "sources" it just says "findagrave".

I would think if the intent is to get a photo of a headstone into WikiTree that it would be copyright infringement.  For bio and obituary information, just make a note "Obituary included on memorial".

I have a list of people for whom I have permission to use their photos.  Many are from their bios.  Even those need to be annotated "Used with permission" if you import.  I have yet to have anyone to say no to using photos.  Most do want to be cited.
David, I have done the same thing. I am also a contributor to Find A Grave. I have a note on my profile that says I am happy to share my pictures, with credit given.

I have never been told no by any contributor to FAG.

If it was being used as thumbnail-type of image and linked back to the original source (where the screenshot was taken), then this shouldn't be an issue.

However, if it is just being used as a source as you mention, with no credits given, no way back to the original source and it covers a substantial portion of copyrighted content, then this would certainly be something that needs to be either updated or removed.

"Ripped and rolled" screen grabs should (at the very least) be entirely enclosed in block quotes and cited fully within those quotes-- otherwise it is bare, naked plagiarism and an embarrassment. Ideally such material should be paraphrased and cited. Usually most of the information from FAG is already covered by other sources and can be culled out from any new information to be paraphrased and cited. Hope this helps.
