G2G: Richard Talbot shown as son of Aline Basset and her second husband

Question

Wikitree currently has a Richard Talbot ("Richard junior") as a child of Aline Basset and her second husband, another Richard Talbot ("Richard senior"). Richard junior's profile is a GEDCOM import. The sources in it, so far as I can check them out, do not support the relationship. The only son of Richard senior and Aline whom I can locate in the Compete Peerage and other sources is Gilbert, and Cokayne raises a slight question mark about even him being a child of the marriage. Does anyone have a source for Richard junior being a child of Aline and Richard senior? If not, I suggest we detach him from them, with a research note on his and his parents' profiles mentioning that he has previously been shown as a child of theirs.

Looks like he used to be an attempt to provide a Rollo descent for the Talbots of Malahide.  I think he needs merging away into one of those.  But his dates have been fiddled, so he no longer matches the known Irish Richards.

Your suspicions shared here, particularly since I doubt how many of the claimed sources prove his parentage. As he has no wife or children, could he be unlinked without harm?

Which Richard, son of Richard, is this source referring to?

If it's a different Richard, then I agree with RJ to merge him away.  I see no reason to just detach him with no attachments to a spouse or children unless we have at least one reliable source to confirm his existence.

I assume that the reference is to this one I have found on Internet Archive - https://archive.org/details/NationalManuscriptsOfIreland/page/n101. It is clearly to Talbots of Malahide, Ireland and the Richard mentioned in it can't be son of the Richard who married Aline Basset. I have added the weblink to Richard Junior's profile.

I have not researched the Talbots of Malahide, and so am not competent to determine what profile to merge Richard junior into: especially since, as R J says, there are problems because dates have been fiddled. And I suspect, if those who know about the Malahide family look at the source I have found the link to, it may not help clarify things. I suggest I just detach from the currently shown parents and leave others to try and work out whether there is an existing profile he can be merged into. The one closest in dates is Richard fitz Adam Talbot.
