What to do with an unconnected unsourced profile

I have come across a profile that has no connections to any other profile, has no sources except a link to an ancestry tree that no longer works, and has no dates for birth/marriage/death.  In the changes it shows that nothing has been touched on this profile since it was created in 2011.  Its on our Kent suggestions list as the only piece of information is a birth place of Tonbridge, Kent.  I have checked the Tonbridge registers and I cannot find any person with this or similar spelling. What should I do with [[Jeffrie-2|Thomas Jeffrie]]  ?

Have you checked the FamilySearch Family Tree and/or their old pedigree and ancestor files? Another place to look is RootsWeb where people have loaded GEDCOM's.

Just a thought.

Sarah, another tip... for ancestry tree links that don't work, you can convert them to a wikitree link template.  Ancestry changed the structure of their links, so often the tree is still valid but its just the link that doesn't work.

See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Links_to_Ancestry#Family_Tree

I ususally just use the first set of numbers to connect to the tree, and then look up the person id on the actual record on Ancestry.  (The really old links have invalid profile id's).

I updated the link on the Jeffrie profile, and it does look like that tree has been taken down. But its always good to double check by using the template.

Thanks for all the responses.  I think I'll pass this over to the lost and found project to let them work it out.

Ah-ha! Thought so. This profile was created through the import of a GEDCOM file in 2011, back in the bad old days when GEDCOMs were disintegrating on impact. This is a job for The Lost and Found Project!

There are almost 100 trees on Ancestry containing this Thomas Jeffrie. All the ones that I looked at (at least 20 of them) show him as the father of John Newington. Most of the trees are completely unsourced and the remaining ones just use other trees as sources, there is not a single actual record attached to any of them. There is also no explanation anywhere as to why the son of somebody with the surname Jeffrie would have the surname Newington.

According to those trees John Newington is supposedly the father of Jane Newington, who married somebody with the surname Jefferie so perhaps that is where the name came from in some unknown way. Again there are no records attached to any of the trees I looked at to support any of this information.
