Is there guidance about filling in the date a marriage ended with the date the spouse died? Or not?

I can't find any guidance, but it seems like a good idea to alert folks to multiple spouses or let someone think about the notion that there might be an additional spouse out there.  I know thinking itself is a good alternative, but I was just wondering.  I've seen it sometimes, but not enough to think that it's a policy.

Thanks.

To directly answer your question, no, I don't believe we have any specific guideline regarding that data field.

At least, I haven't found one yet - and I regularly consult the Help pages.

I do the same as Becky - fill out an end date where I know the year of the divorce. If one couple was married until one of the couple passed away then I dont bother filling anything in....

I fill out the end of marriage date as the date the spouse passed away unless I know of a divorce date if there's more than one spouse.

I have several mormons in my tree who practiced polygamy, so in those cases it's more important to fill out the end of marriage date with the spouses death date, that way people can see they were married to more than one spouse at the same time.

For people in my tree who only married once I don't tend to fill out the end of marriage date.

Suggestion may show when the Death Date matches the Marriage End Date.  If that happens, then you should mark it as a False Suggestion because it matches Death Date.
