reading carefully any article Richard III

laugh Still learning how to "slow read" having mastered "fast read" which leads to some rather unpleasant blow-backs at times and a lot of confusion almost every time ...

OKAY, reading online article about the mtDNA of Richard III (traced from his mother via desc of his sisters) and wondering about WHY? he didn't have a Y-DNA (other than a lack of male descendants?) .... there had been a non-paternal event between Richard and some forebear that everyone else thinks is THE Genuine primary DNA daddy ...

The phrases about non-paternal events of from 1% to 2% shocked me, with me horriied to think that out of every 100,000 babies born each year, 1,000 to 2,000 of them are not the babies of the registered father .....

IT TOOK ME 4 READS TO GET THIS STRAIGHT in my mind, it was the ADDITIONAL part of the phrases "over 40 generations" I did NOT register in my speed read ... 40 generations, maybe 20 yrs to a generation, 800 registered fathers, and a "fail rate" of from -- maybe -- 8 to 16 of them not the actual bio father ... well, even that is something to boggle my own mind ...

To be fair, not all of them are clandestine, there are reasons why a wannabe father would countenance a cuckoo's egg in his nest ... impotence or a complete aversion to females, health such that it was thought the attempt (even) would kill him (before the heir was begotten and safely born), and so forth ...

So, once I had talked myself down from the rafters and used reason rather than emotional reaction ... okay, although it's obvious my approval etc won't move mountains nor alter one whit the Past so let's just move me along to more relevant matters -- and so I say to myself.

Are they SERIOUS? a maybe 8 to 16 out 40 generations is not unexpected??
