Looking for Wills for Pendlebury Family of Lancashire about 1757

I am trying to improved the profile for Ralph Pendlebury (1702-1755) [Pendlebury-36] as part of the England Orphan trail.

I've ended up stuck in the weeds next to the trail.

In my initial digging, I came across a user created tree - The Hardie Tree on Atlassian. I know User trees are considered "unreliable" and shouldn't be cited as a source. However most of the detail can be corroborated using citable sources.

The write up for Ralph mentions apprenticeship records with Ralph as the employer. It also contains the text of the Wills of two of Ralph's brothers that name Ralph's children as beneficiaries.

The Hardie Tree also has a write up for Ralph's father (Roger) that includes the text of Roger's will that names Ralph as a beneficiary.

I have had a brief look at the National Archives and can't find any copies of these wills.

Is anyone able to find citable sources for any of these wills or apprenticeship records?

I would prefer publicly available records, but if that's not possible, I would take paid sites like Ancestry or FMP.

thanks in advance

Bruce

Here are the two wills

John 1757http://archivecat.lancashire.gov.uk/calmview/Record.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog&id=W%2fCW%2fSupra%2fC428B%2f10&pos=375

Roger 1757 http://archivecat.lancashire.gov.uk/calmview/Record.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog&id=W%2fCW%2fSupra%2fC431B%2f56&pos=377

I noticed many  records that could relate to this family. I haven't searched specifically for the other records. The researcher has obviously spent a lot of time at the Lancaster Archives. These wills probably haven't been digitised and put online anywhere.

It's a bit of a dilemma as to how to cite it since she hasn't cited the location and ref numbers of the wills. ( although maybe she has.somewhere, I'm on a phone; I tried switching to desktop version. It was totally impossible to use but I realised there was far more to her work than I could see in the slimmed down version.)

You could probably obtain copies by email but they would cost. I think I would add the citation as a slightly more detailed foot note. In the footnote something like

Liz Hardy transcript Will of John Pendlebury of Lostock; prob. 24th October 1757. [ Website URL Hardie Family,  online family history] accessed 24 Aug 2019.This will is held by the Lancashire Archives , Archdeaconery of Chester probate record WCW/suppra/C4 88B/10

Thank you for the star Pip. ( but its the only answer so far)
Helen

Thanks for your help. That certainly gives me something to go on.

For current purposes, I am prepared to assume that Liz Hardy's cite is a fair transcription of the wills and point other researchers to the archive site you have referenced.

If the Pendleburys have closer relatives, they may wish to pay for a scan of the archives.

A few years late, but I've only just come across this question. The Pendlebury will transcripts or summaries you refer to were originally made by me at the Lancashire Record Office, circa 1983. Over the years I have shared them with various people and they now pop up attached to many online trees.

I have only just started to participate on this site so I'm not sure what the best course of action is. Would it be helpful if I created a page (free space profile?) of Pendlebury transcripts - each with its source properly referenced. Then you or anyone in the same situation could just cite that.

David,

Welcome to WikiTree.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my ancient post.

The work I did on the Pendleburies was part of the England Project's Orphan Trail (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Orphan_Trail_Team). While your post suggests you are an experienced Genealogist, I would strongly recommend you sign up for this program. It provides a great introduction on how to format engaging profiles and cite supporting sources. There is also a good tour through the "house style", profile standards, and other useful formatting tips.

Since the work I did on the trail, I have moved on to close family members. So, access to the Pendlebury Transcripts isn't of immediate benefit to me, but others would find it very useful..

I would suggest you contact Steven Whifield] (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Whitfield-2424), the leader of the Lancashire team (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Lancashire_Team) for the best way to integrate your work into their list of "Lancashire Resources".

He should also be able to guide you on whether it is better to start with a Free Space Project (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Free-Space_Projects) or just a Free Space Profile (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Free-Space_Profile)

Please note that building a list of transcriptions and cross linking them to any existing profiles for the people they referred to is starting to stray into advanced topics. We need to get the structure right the first time or a lot of effort will be wasted on (re)formatting rather than content. Also, I suspect that may of the people you have wills for will be fairly ancient, so you are likely to trip over the "restrictions" for pre-1700 profiles.
It would be a great shame to lose the transcriptions you have. So, while adding your transcriptions in sounds like a great idea. But you may want to hasten slowly.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with
