Yesterday I found a biographical article written about her husband Ebenezer Mudge in 1868 (while their children were still alive) that gave her parents as Josiah and Laura Skinner. And that's all they gave. No further information. So, who were Josiah and Laura Skinner of (as of 1772) Sharon, Connecticut? That's what I need help with.
My theory is that Josiah was a Josiah Skinner born to Thomas Skinner (1712-1762) and Elizabeth Mudge (1714-1807) in Sharon, Connecticut in 1746. It would make him 26 at the time of her birth. Reasonable, and he was from Sharon. This would also mean that Sarah and her husband Ebenezer were second cousins, both descended from Elizabeth Mudge's parents, Ebenezer Mudge (1683-1758) and Abigail Skinner (1691-1765). Thomas Skinner and Elizabeth Mudge were themselves cousins, both descended from a Thomas Skinner and Mary Pratt.
But I can't prove this theory. I've found no marriage records for Josiah and Laura. Making things harder is that there were a few Josiah Skinners around that time, one of whom married a Sarah Mudge in 1753. The Mudges and the Skinners intertwine many times throughout the years; apparently the families were close for some generations.
Any help to break through this wall would be greatly appreciated!
