Starting September 1st, the first Transcriber's Challenge will kick off! The Transcriber's Challenge is a month long challenge where members are encouraged to transcribe gravestone photographs in order to create new profiles on WikiTree.
Anytime you want to compete for the Winners badge, click answer at the bottom of this post. We will use the Challenge Tracker to record the profiles we create.
- All profiles must be new to WikiTree and the photographs must be original – either taken by you personally, or photos that you have permission to use!
- Do not use photos from FindAGrave without permission
- Make sure to check for existing profiles before creating a new one!
- Every new profile created from a gravestone transcription must contain the image, as well as a source citation for the transcription.
- If an image contains multiple people, each new profile created will count!
- As an example, a gravestone that contains both a husband and wife, which ends up being 2 new profiles to WikiTree, counts as 2 points!
- Make sure to link the image to both profiles and provide the source citation.
When you save the profile, a green bar for the Challenge Tracker will appear at the top of the page. Simply click on the CHALLENGE TRACKER button and check the box for "Cemetery Transcribers Challenge"! Verify your Wiki-ID, add a comment, and then click "Add Action".
For those who do not have their own photos, and would like to participate, the Global Cemeteries Project has you covered! Head over to the Transcriber's Challenge Resources page for a listing of donated photos you can work from!
