September 2019 BioBuilder - Letter 'C' Surnames

+13 votes

This month’s Bio Builders Challenge theme is people whose surname begins with the letter 'C'.

Thank you for your support.

Here's our checklist:

Data Section:

  • birth date/place
  • names of parents
  • marriage date/place and spouse name
  • names of children, if any
  • death date/place

Biography Section:

  • Written (full) sentences stating the facts above, adding inline sources to each fact.
  • Is the profile '''Genealogically Defined?'''
  • As a general rule biographies should be in your own words. Paraphrase and rewrite, don't copy/paste.
  • Baptism, burial, military, and other life events with inline sources.
  • Something to "humanize" the person, such as career or avocation with sources.
  • List of children with at least one pertinent fact.
  • Some list siblings. (I think this takes up real estate.)
  • Explanatory remarks, if needed (e.g. disputed persons information, Research Notes, whatever needs extra explaining).
  • Photos or pictures, background. Not a must, but nice (you need to own the copyright unless they are in the public domain).
  • Categories.
  • Connection to the Global Tree.
  • All duplicates merged or initiated.
  • Links to persons and events, perhaps from Wikipedia.
  • Historical context as related to the person's life.
  • Sources, Sources, Sources.

You can see some ideas on where to find some of this information on the Biography Builders space page.

Use "comments" below to ask questions.

NOTE: Biography Builders will not show on the tracker. Please add a list to your answer.

Then you could count me out.  Every one of them I tried to work on was pre-1500 and closed to me.
All of the Penn and 1776 profiles are post 1500.
As I think about it, there are tons of post-1500 profiles: Palatines, Quakers, World War II - actually, most of the modern wars and that about makes up the Military and War Project, New Netherlands, all of the US State Projects...

The ones posted for the German Project, with which I am involved, are all pre-1500.  I had already checked.  But I have plenty of other things to do besides writing bios.  A month off would be welcomed. smiley

I'm in; time to improve the Carter line (and others)!

1. George Washington Carter (1800 - 1875)

2. Nancy (Hasty) Carter (abt. 1803 - abt. 1850)

Didn't finish the other two; will shelve them for another month.

SJ, I wonder whether it would be better to reduce the subheadings on Nancy Hasty so that the "Disambiguation" is "above the fold."  That is an exceedingly important note that I would hate to have someone miss.
Not sure I understand what you mean by reduce the subheadings.

Maybe you can "Cross" them off your list ;)
Yeah I'll do that :D, just so long as I don't get them crossed

I started working on some in Cheshire, England from the unsourced category, this led to a family in Ireland. The Caffery group has children born in 3 continents and an overlap of wives, it's a challenge. The following have all had some work done on them to improve them not yet genealogically defined.

1. Jeremiah Caffery detached from family group looking for more evidence

2  John Caffery detached from family group source sadded and wife created.

3. John Murrey Caffery

4. Patrick Caffery

5.  Ann (Clarke) Caffery (1834 - 1911)

6. Margaret Caffery (1839 - 1936)

7. - Ann (Gaffery) Gould

8. Mary Cowell

9. Ann Maria Cann (daughter)

10. William Cann (father)

11. - Hannah (Watson) Cann (mother)

12. wife of Caffery-16 created as part of proving need to detach Caffery-16 from Caffery-25.

I don't have many, but I'll work on those that I have - and perhaps add a few more in the family.

I'm beginning with my great-grandmother, Lena Idell (Cater) Wright.  Cater-407  (done).

Next up will be George Edward Cater

I have never taken part in a challenge before.   I am not clear on just how much of this complete biography must have been completed in the current month.  I am working on the Cushing family in Massachusetts so I will give it a try (finished) (finished)
