Why does Relatiionship Calculator not show Cottrell-229 as my 14th Gr.Grandfather?

[[Cottrell-229|William Cottrell]] is my 14th Great-Grandfather. His son [[Cottrell-228|Thomas Cottrell]] is my 13th Great-Grandfather. Relationship Calculator does state that Thomas is my 13th Great-Grandfather, but when it reckons my kinship to his father William, it states that "no blood relationship exists" between me and him. How can that be? This must be a bug.

It's not a bug.  Relationship Finder is limited in the number of generations it searches.  Do you see the dark green button just below the text? Search 30 generations. It finds it.

Thank you for all your answers. However, in the case of William Cottrell, Relationship Calculator only had to look for 14 generations, one less than 15. And the links between that ancestral profile and my own profile have been there for several years already. So none of the answers explain why this happens. Another odd thing is that I am descended from a Rev. John Crandall through four different lines, and yet i don't see my DNA information at his or any other Crandall profiles until his descendant, my 5th Great-Grandmother. Yet other DNA profiles are indicated at those very same ancestral profiles. The cause might be that descent from too many lines from the same ancestor somehow cancel each other out. PS. I just recalculated my relationship to William Cottrell using the 30 generations button, and it worked. It says that he is my 14th Great-Grandfather. Somehow i did not think that 14th Gr.Grandfather would be beyond 15 generations. But i was wrong! Thank you!
If it's autosomal DNA, that only stretches back 5 generations.  Any other profiles linked to him by DNA might be via a yDNA test.

I think it counts the start and the end as generations which makes 16, not 14.  The 14 is the number of generations between you two.

Aha! Thank you for telling me this. I shall no longer worry about it. 5 generations for AuDNA. Yes, some of those other DNA-linked profiles were MtDNA and Y-DNA.

That must indeed be the case: 14 generations between us, makes 16 generations altogether. More heads are better than one! :)

Did you put it to show 30 generations from you? Cause if not it only shows 10 generations.

If you only made the link today - then you will have to wait 24 hours for the system to update the connections.
The system does a backup once per day and during which time it makes those connections. So the connection should be OK for tomorrow.
Please be Patient.

It's OK - Relationship Finder finds the ancestor if he searches with 30 generations instead of 15.
