Find-A-grave shows that Augustus N. Roland is buried in Lanark, Carroll Co., IL. He was born 30 Nov 1852 and died 23 Feb 1911. The 1900 US Census IL, Whiteside Co., Rock Falls, shows Augustus N. Roland, a 47yo paper finisher b. Nov 1852, living with his wife Nettie and 4 boys born all born IL. The couple has been married for 24 years, and Nettie has had 10 children, with 7 still living. Augustus's parents were both b. in PA, while Nettie's father was born in Switz. and her mother in OH.
On the 1880 Census IL, Carroll Co., Lanark, "Agustus" is a 27yo farmer. Although his wife is named Fannie J., 20yo b. OH, I think this is the same wife, as her father was born in in Switz. and her mother in OH. The parents of Augustus were both born in PA. (According to Find-A-Grave, Augustus is buried with his wife Fannie.) Augustus married Fannie in 1876 in Carroll Co. Other Rolands married there and in Whiteside and other nearby counties.
In 1870, Augustus was shown on the 1870 US Census, IL, Carroll Co., living in a hotel in Lanark. He worked as an hostler.
Also, there is a Mary Roland, 62yo b. PA, shown on the 1870 US Census in Lanark, Carroll Co., IL. She is living with Mathias Roland, a 28yo laborer b. PA and his wife Emma, 24yo also b. PA.
On the 1860 US Census IL, Whiteside Co., Genessee Twp., there is an "Augustis" Rowland, 7yo b. PA. I think this is your guy. He is living with Wm. Roland, a 52 (57?) yo farmer b. PA, and Mary Rowland, 51yo b. PA, and two other children: Alexander, a 16yo farm laborer b. PA; and Emma E., 13yo also b. PA.
Theorizing that Mathias might be Mary's son, I checked the PA Church and Town Records for Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading, Berks Co., PA, found on Ancestry. There is a Mathias Joseph Roland was born on 11 Aug 1841 to Joseph Roland and Catharine. He was baptized on 10 July 1842. (Trinity was a German church, at least the records are in German.) Joseph and Catharine had other children baptized at the same church: daughter, Charlotta, baptized 11 Dec 1838; Mary Margaret, bapt. 4 Jan 1840. Although I read the entire church record 1851-1854, I couldn't find Augustus.
There are other Roland families at Trinity Church who had children baptized at the same church in the same time period: Jacob and Rebecca, Francis and Eliza, David and Mary Ann, Samuel and Ellen, Albert and Louisa, and George and Elmira. (There are other Rolands at the Central Methodist Church in Reading.)
The 1850 US Census PA, Berks Co., Reading NE Ward, shows the Joseph and William Roland families, listed on the same page. Both are hatters. William and Mary are show with 5 children b. PA: Hiram, 14yo; Harrison, 12yo; William, 10yo; and Emma E, 4yo. I think this is the right family. George W. (Roland) and his wife Ellen, are listed on the next page. The marriage records for Carroll Co., IL, shows some of the children from these families getting married.
It looks like Mathias Roland, with whom Mary was living in 1870, is a nephew, the son of Joseph.
