Can anyone find the parents of Christian McKenzie?

Hello all,

Recently I've been trying to expand upon my brick wall ancestors, and Christian Ross (née McKenzie) is one such brick. According to ScotlandsPeople, Christian was baptised on 24 May 1769 in Tain, Ross and Cromarty, as the daughter of "Donald McKenzie and Christian Ross or McFinlaymore". A broad marriage search for Donald (by broad, I mean a solid 50 years or so) turned up no results for a marriage to anyone by that name (either Ross, McFinlaymore, or any other variation).

Though I'm not a stranger to Scottish genealogy, it is certainly further out of my wheelhouse than England and I would appreciate any help whatsoever :-)

Donald and Christian are almost certainly the correct parents; based on the children attributed to Christian and her husband, she could not have been born much earlier than 1769 and an alternate birth of 1758 is almost a decade early.

Unfortunately Amy, it looks like there are very few records for Tain available, according to the FamilySearch Wiki, including a big gap in baptisms from Jan 1727 to Feb 1767.

FamilySearch - Scotland Births and Baptisms, does have a Hugh Ross or McFinlaymore as the father of Donald Ross, this is in Logie-Easter, Ross and Cromarty.

"Scotland Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950," database, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VQ7S-6XF : 10 February 2018), Hugh Ross Or Mc Finlaymore in entry for Donald Ross, 15 Apr 1800; citing LOGIE-EASTER,ROSS AND CROMARTY,SCOTLAND, reference , index based upon data collected by the Genealogical Society of Utah, Salt Lake City; FHL microfilm 990,657.

This is definitely a promising route to research further! Do you have any theories in regards to the "Ross or McFinlaymore" issue? I highly doubt it exists due to a mistranscription, but I can't understand why there would be two separate surnames listed like this.
