spelling variations in first names

I see this question was raised 2 years ago, but nothing seems to have been done. The WT search is clearly capable of handling variations on surnames, yet it apparently can't cope with the slightest difference in the spelling of forenames. When I dutifully check to see if a given person already has a WT ID, I regularly find myself risking the creation of a duplicate, simply because the search engine can't seem to figure the possibility that a "Frederick" might be spelled "Fredrick."

Not to mention the ubiquitous Anne/Ann confusion.

Why can't this be addressed?

Yes, I asked my question after reading those two-year-old discussions and then finding the problem still exists unresolved.

If WT search has the capacity to find variations on surnames, why not on forenames?

Hi Lois Tilton;
If you are searching for margaret/marguerite or frederick/fredrick/fredrich etc. just put marg* or fred* in the surname box, it will find all instances. Sometimes names are misspelled, so starting with the lowest common denominator, might have to reduce to just the first letter m* or f* etc.
