Just checking in this morning! I'll be working in Kentucky 1900-1999 to start.

Let's go get 'em!
Getting ready to start.  I see someone I know on the Arkansas list needing attention.  Looks like they have multiple problems beside lack of sources.  I will start there.
New strategy--stay away from people that are already in my database.  An hour spent on one person and I forget to hit the challenge button to get credit for it afterwards.  And I still need to go back and do a better job later.
I hear that! I have trouble just limiting myself to one source for strangers. I wouldn't even want to think the rabbit hole I'd go down on my family.
I have a number of relatives who moved to TX who are unsourced. Would these profiles count? They are on my watchlist.
Log them in! They will count!!
thanks! just wanted to check

I just "stumbled" across this Missouri resource page:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Sources-Missouri

I haven't explored it yet, but it seems to have potential!

I didn't even know about this page until you mentioned it.I've since adopted it and hope to make improvements. Also plan to review and add links as needed for other state resources on the team page.

Anxious to get started!  Glad to see so many of you on my team are 'linked' in as a cousin of mine!   We have come so far!

I'm ready to go as well! This is my favorite event.

Do you plan on having anyone focus on certain states? Is it going to just be open to the all the states and we just chat with each other?  I will be on medical leave from work so will be more involved this time that last year.  So want to make sure I contribute in the best way.

Looking at the "Unsourced Profiles" by state numbers, it looks to me like we'll have plenty of space to keep from tripping over each other's feet. Tennessee alone has 11937 unsourced profiles of people born between 1800 and 1999, which could keep us all happily busy all weekend.

My only plan is to work steady through the unsourced profiles lists. But, when I went to a list last year and saw that Lori had worked several of those profiles in a row from the top down, I went to the bottom of the list and started working my way up.
Yep, what Jer just said. You can focus on whatever state or states you wish. I've adopted Jer's approach and have been working bottom up on where ever I pick to work. I usually go with the states I'm most familiar with or the ones that don't seem to have much being done to them.

I'm thinking I might scan the list for surnames that I could have a connection to, which might improve my chances for finding sources!  Or might help me find more sources for people I've already been stymied on...

As I re-read the above, I guess that could sound self-serving, but ultimately, its all for the good of the Tree! smiley

So my plan for the day is to work my butt off and try to get us up as high as possible before I crash tonight. It seems that if you don't do that it's a losing battle trying to climb up the list. At least that's the plan for now. We'll see how that works out. lol

It is just past noon (central time) and I can finally start.  I'll be working on unsourced IOWA, bottom up.  Go team.

Awesome! Go get 'em!!

Folks, if you come across unsourced profiles that are NOT labeled as Unsourced, it's perfectly fine to source them and count them as sourced in your total profiles. That's what I'm doing and how I understood things to be. Do not label them unsourced and leave them.

Congratulations on your Source-a-Thon prize, Lori!

Thanks Jer! I had no idea and would've lost it if I hadn't known. Sweet!

Jer, I hope you're awake because you just won a prize!!!
by Lori Zukerman G2G6 Pilot (152k points)

Well, darn it, I was sleeping. Went to bed at 2:30 am Pacific time, didn't wake up till 11. Thanks for the heads up, anyway. Maybe it'll come 'round to me again, I'll be at the midnight chat in an hour.

Yeah, I saw how late you were up! I think that helped us hold onto 9th. Hopefully we will not lose spots again as is so typical of the overnight.

Just did 14 hours and it's time to wind down and get some sleep for me. Had a few too many distractions today and wasn't as productive as I had hoped but there's still tomorrow!

I am working on a profile that the deeper I get into the more problems I am finding with it.  They have made the husbands have the maiden names of the wives and things do not match up when cross-referencing to Family Search where I started.  The original couple and wife's parents matched.  Any suggestions to not take all night to correct this one profile?  I have already been on it for over an hour just adding birth/death dates for the children.

by Colleen Flannery G2G6 Mach 1 (13.2k points)
Colleen, save one or two of the profiles, like as a bookmark or something, and come back to it after the source-a-thon? They aren't going anywhere, and if you feel like untangling that mess later, it'll still be there.

Great job guys!! I'm really proud of how hard everyone is working. Really says something that we help our position overnight and during today. Had hoped to move up to 8th but there's still tomorrow.

Hope everyone is having fun!

I just got a thrill - I gave a man his name!  "Unknown Price" (Price-5283) not surprisingly had no sources.  I did the same detective thing you all are doing too, and found him -  with his first name: Richard.smiley  That's fun stuff!

by Bartley McRorie G2G6 Pilot (164k points)
That's awesome and so rewarding when you can do something like that.
Bartley, that's quality work. I got a big score; but I was cherry picking, finding whole families that had no sources and using the same census or two for all of them. By contrast, you did quality sleuthing.
Thank you for the encouragement!

I wish I’d been able to spend more time, but it was a busy family weekend at the same time.  So, next year I’ll just have to block it out on the calendar!

In case anyone wants to see the statistics, but don't know where to find them, here you go.  We are in ninth place so far.

Sweet! Now if we can hold onto it...

You're doing an awesome job team! Current position is 7th. I'm going to try to be back up and at it early. I'm done after about 14 straight hours.

You guys are the best! Teri, you are in absolute beast mode! You rock lady!

Just wanted to say, outstanding job, T.M. We've already tripled the Team Missouri total from last year, which was 853. It's 11pm Sunday night as of this writing.  "Once more into the breach, dear friends!"
