Could the Categorization project please direct me to where I can view the approved structure for South Africa?

Edit: Specifically with regards to place names

Is there one? Honestly, I have no idea if there is one.

I just go here:https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:South_African_Roots_Project

Is there an approved structure? There can't be if the project rejected the proposal, and as far as I remember, that's what happened.

(If I misunderstood, I apologize).

I agree, that is what I remember as well. One of the members  of the categorization project is adding a bunch of random place categories of his own design to profiles, so I thought I would ask first in case I missed something somewhere. Maybe different rules apply to these categorization project members.

-sorry for bad english-
No, there are no special rules for any project members.
Just a bunch of time wasting non-genealogy which will have to be redone somewhere in the future then I suppose.

I presented two proposals in good faith that were consistent with other regional structures to G2G for approval. They created controversy and neither got to the vote. They never succeeded. In fact they are still open. To the best of my knowledge there was no formal rejection by SA Roots Project. Nor did that Project make any substantial counter proposal and seek G2G approval. Ergo South Africa does not actually have an agreed category structure for locations that I am aware of. Thus if users choose to categorise locations on their South African managed profiles they can only do so within the existing framework.

I shall continue to add town and city categories at the landing level to my South African profiles, and there are many, trying as best I can to fit into the de facto unapproved category structure, which is not of my making.

I want to make it abundantly clear, I am working South African profiles as a WikiTree member in my own right, and not as a member of the Categorisation Project. In fact I have done very little categorisation work as a project member.

If categorisation is so irrelevant to genealogy, i.e. "bunch of time wasting non-genealogy which will have to be redone somewhere in the future" as suggested, then I wonder why there is such concern about the categorisation being done by South African WikiTree users. It’s not actually irrelevant, by the way, it’s is a common feature of information wiki systems and the sooner we have a G2G approved structure for South African locations the better.

Is this a grudge issue, or is there a genuine concern about there being no agreed structure? Can we not try and find some common ground here? I am happy to rejoin the SA Roots Project and be part of any subcommittee to address this very important issue. I am actually very flexible... at the end of the day I want to see a South African Regional structure for locations that we are all comfortable with. In the meantime, if one has issues with what I am doing, kindly address these with me.

Hi Andrew,

You should really subscribe to the tag announcements. That way you will know what new and exciting is happening on WikiTree. We told you this, but maybe you would like to for example read for yourself and come up to speed. Great changes are coming to place names that is why the proposal is still on hold. It does not make sense to implement something which might not be needed. There is no rush.

If you did only the profiles you manage the changes will not show up in our feeds. That is how we found out what you were doing.

If and when a proposal is approved, it will not look like what you are doing, because everyone disagreed with you except the non SA members. This means that everything you did is wrong as you just went ahead and made the categories the way you proposed. Having to correct a lot of deliberate wrong work is non genealogy work and not to the benefit of anyone on WikiTree.

Please re-read the honour code you agreed to when you joined WikiTree.

Hi,

I am new at this so I am not sure what you are asking.  Is the question about

a) How to layout a Biography

b) The correct names to be used for a location in a time period

c) the correct layout for a citation.

I ask because there does seem to be some form of standard across SA projects, although, standards are not always applied.

Hi Jaulanne, this has nothing to do with the layout of the biography, but with adding categories to profiles. Categories put profiles in groups of similar things like carpenters, wars, projects, cemeteries or anything else you can think of.

Hi,

thank you for clarifying. There are categories here

Not sure whether they cover everything
