I have found recently, that My Family line is from ky via census. I have gotten stuck with [[Cassel-125|John Cassel]] & [[Summers-1157|Mary Summers]] of Indiana. While Mary's is born in ky and family is there, John was born in Indiana but his Parents are from KY. and that's all I have on him. Now there was a old family feud over land that changed the family name from Cassell to Cassel. I have not found proof of this it is a family rummer passed down.  John Cassel 1844 all his info is mixed up With Andrew John Cassel 1832. So it's taken me a long time to get to this point. I am looking for john's Parents.

John Cassel
My 3rd great grandfather
Birth: 11 Oct 1844 in Indiana, United States
Death: 2 July 1890 in Owen County, Indiana, United States.
Buried: Hudson Hill Cemetery, Montgomery, Owen, IN, Usa
Both Parents are from KY.

Marriage - Owen County, Indiana
Summers Mary E John Cassel Feb 17 1867 29 326

1880 United States Federal Census of Taylor, Owen, Indiana
John Cassel 35 Head Indiana KY KY Farmer
Mary E. Cassel 31 Wife KY KY KY
William G. Cassel 9 Son IN IN KY
Charles E. Cassel 8 Son IN IN KY
Hyram T. Cassel 5 Son IN IN KY
Jefferson Cassel 3 Son IN IN KY

The Big thing with my Family is That we go by our middle names.. So I wonder if John is his middle name or his first name... this is the same with most German families, that came to the States. His son William, Always went by this middle name Grant. Although on his tombstone is William Grant Cassell (1870 - 1952).

If any one Can help, and know this line reply.. Thanks

Looking for the father of George Cassell, Surfing through the Records knowing George is in flemming co, in 1803 & Harrison in 1837, I looked through the 1820 U.S. Census for KENTUCKY , FLEMING, NO TWP LISTED_Series- M33 Roll- 21 Page- 43 & Cassell, John there whom wasn't there in 1800, still have to go through the 1810.  I am thinking it is possible this John in 1820 could be a father??  As George was born in Flemming Co, KY.  4 People were on the property. John Cassell is the only Casssell in Flemming County, Kentucky, that I could find in 1820.  George dies in 1854 in indiana,  Wife remarries Quickly William Mcquatt

Jefferson Cassell & William Mcquatt are in the civil war of 1861 - 1865.  He was a injured and caught as prisoner of war in the Township Cloverdale.

It would seem after this Jefferson and the Younger Siblings (Catharine (Cassel) Dent and John Cassel) all drop the 2nd L.  Still trying to figure out why...

So I am Looking at Georges Parents.. Any help here would be great it has been a hard slog finding information on this line.

Jefferson Cassel

Now, I was told by my father at a young age, that I could write my name as Cassell or Cassel, Due to there being a family disagreement, a family member droped the l to make him self different from the rest of the family.

One family member went to war, before he went to war he gave his parents a lot of money to buy land and build a house, for when he came back, in the chance he died, it was theirs to keep, but when he came back his parents, keep the money and the house, So he changed his name from Cassell to Cassel.

The Issue with this being George is it would have had to be pre 1850's war, but Jefferson was still using the Cassell in 1861-1864 war.  Which he would if he was still enlisted.  I have still found no edvidence of this story being true, but George Cassell is the father of John Cassel.  John being born in 1844 was about 10 when his father past.
