How to add or remove a DNA test on the profile of a deceased person

Policy changes related to GDPR mean that some of the old instructions for editing DNA tests on a deceased person's profile no longer work.

Regardless of the process you follow, you must be a profile manager before you can edit a deceased person's DNA tests.

One of the procedures described earlier does work still. Go to the person's profile. Click on the tab with their ID on it. One of the choices on that menu will be DNA. The third box at the top of the page is a link for "DNA Tests." That will open the page where you can add her test information.

Here's another procedure that works:

  1. Find the deceased person's numerical profile ID (this will be a number like 865951 or 6377295). There are several ways to do this. My favorite is to go the person's profile and select "Family List" under the person's profile ID.  The URL for the Family List will be something like https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:FamilyList&p=8728972. That multi-digit number at the end is the numerical ID. Copy it.
  2. To access the person's DNA Test page, in browser's URL field and enter https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:DNATests&u= followed by the numerical ID that you copied (for example, https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:DNATests&u=8728972) and "GO" to that page.
  3. Now edit that page to enter the person's DNA test or delete a test that was added in error.

Hi Ellen,

I'm assuming that by "old instructions", you are referring to the instructions found on this G2G question. I used those old instructions today (which took me to the same DNA Tests page as in step 3 of the above new instructions). It appeared that I was able to successfully add a DNA test (of type Other auDNA test) to my deceased grandfather's profile (for whom I am a profile manager). When I view the "DNA Tested" section of his profile, it now indicates that his "DNA has been tested for genealogical purposes". When I view the DNA Tests page for his profile, it shows the Other auDNA test that I added. I'm assuming that if I were to leave the Other DNA test on his DNA Tests page, within 24 hours that DNA test info would propagate to his profile and those of his appropriate biological relatives (per usual). Am I missing something?

Edited ... I've now removed the "test" Other DNA Test entry from my grandfather's profile.

OK, it seems that the "DNA" item under the menu tab labeled with the person's ID still goes to a "DNA" page that has a "DNA Test" link that goes to the person's DNA test page.  That's great! I'll add that to the message above.

I tried to edit a DNA test for a deceased person by using DNA Test Information under the Add menu. That invariably took me to my own DNA page.
