Hitting a road block in trying to trace Christian Paul (b. 1834, Germany). Travelled from Bremerhaven in 1874 to US. I'm trying to locate any information on his family to assist in tracing further back.. Place of birth, family, etc.

Not much help, though, as Prussia was at her largest size at this time, encompassing almost all of Northern Germany.

Thanks for your helo. I had found this record previously. The trouble I am having is in trying to establish where Christian and his family lived prior to travelling to the US. The information that I have is that Christian was born in 1834, married Anna, and travelled to US with 3 children (Charles, Edward, and Julie). Christian's parents were Gottlieb and Louise. I can't seem to find where their residence was in Germany.
There are some German emigration records available (few online, more on microfilm through Family History Libraries). Since there are no unified Prussion records available one would have to look for the individual Prussian provinces. Since Christian emigrated through Bremen I would focus on the Western provinces of Prussia: Hesse-Nassau, Rhineland, Westphalia, maybe Hohenzollern, and Hanover.
Thanks for your help. It seems that I am having trouble trying to get a search to work in the Family History Libraries. It may be my browser, so I'll have to update and try again.
