Member "number ID" on thank you feed

I recently visited my thank you feed and noticed several of them do not have a hotlink to the person's name next to the date, but rather a multi-digit, non-linked number.  Who is this and how do you visit their bio page....or not?

Those would be IP#s from someone not logged in at the time.

Unless they later "fess up", or you know someone's IP# (and, thus, who they are), you'll not know who it was thanking you.  You cannot visit their bio page unless you have their WT ID#.

Hmmm … maybe we need another statistic to use for a badge of honor - who gets thanked the most for helping non-members.  After all, that's one way to show everyone else how friendly we are and encourage them to want to join.
They wouldn't necessarily be non-members, would they?  Just people not logged in.
If there's anyone but me who doesn't understand IOW, they can go to https://www.acronymslist.com

which has a search function.

In other words.

Correct.

I do apologise. blush I sometimes forget that something so familiar to me might not be familiar to all (and it's not even genealogist-speak, just a generalism I've known for decades).

I have been trying to avoid using initialisms and abbreviations in my posts for this reason.  blush

Thanks, Melanie.  No problem.  I just thought I was particularly ignorant, but since I just worked on the WikiTree acronyms page (making a minor contribution) with Liz Shifflett, I thought it was a good opportunity to provide some people a new resource.

The page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:WikiTree_Abbreviations_%26_Acronyms
I'm too lazy to look at that page, but does it include GMTA?  … and the flip side of it, which is FSD?

Then there's an acronym which seems to have morphed into an accepted word - snafu.  I suspect that a lot of people don't realize that it's really an acronym that came from the military and to identify the acronym requires use of obscene language.

*cough* Not always.  There is the cleaner version of Situation Normal All Fouled Up.  cheeky

Gaile:  Great Minds Think Alike.  As for FSD, the only results on the acronyms list were Flight Simulation Division or Full Scale Development, surely not what you had in mind.

(I got 85 options by Googling, and top of the list for some reason was Female Sexual Dysfunction, which I thought was funny; hope repeating it here doesn't get me flagged.)

So what did you have in mind?

If the GMTA is Great Minds Think Alike, then the flip side of that is Fools Seldom Differ.  cheeky

THANX, Melanie - you nailed it - FSD, girlfriend!

Sometimes you can go to https://www.whatismyip.com/ip-address-lookup/

and input the IP number and get some information.  The most recent one I found on your thank-you feed appears to be from  Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
