Thanks, David! Much appreciated!
David, I saw the son, Mitchell, but just haven’t gotten to him yet. I got a good bio up for Richard’s wife, Leona, and now I’ll go back to Richard. Bios take so dang long!!!

Pip, you write wonderful bio's for your profiles no wonder it takes so long! smiley

Well, there Paul, see?  SciFi, music, solitude, writing in whatever form it is ... imagine an audience and shape your songs to fit that audience, imagine a reader and shape your tale to fit that reader ... write it on paper, record it on your device, whatever ... create a world, out of your own mind ...
Pip thanks for hosting the WikiTree Weekend chat. I know what you mean about stubborn mothers especially when they are getting older and not in good health and is independent. I have a mother that is just like that and it can be a pain in the neck if you know what I mean.

Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Weekend chat.
On mothers, remember everyone,"the hand that rocked the cradle, rules the world"
True in my home!
Thanks for hosting Pip. I'm slow this weekend so just getting around to posting.

Susan, gremlins most definitely exist. More so in older houses and I think cats attract them.
Oh, bummer, Doug!!  Well, that CERTAINLY explains a life-long not-always-satisfactory ... relationship? ... to / with the gremlins I've been plagued by ... we have had cats off and on, here now we have 3 of them ... older houses, yes, this is the "newest" one I lived in ... hmm ...

Do you suppose PIP is aiming for a write-up in some glossy magazine with a full spread of pictures to commemorate "Southern Living Today"?

IF he were to cover the whole with concrete he could have a basket ball court on one end and a tennis court on the other end and no lawn etc to wrassle with ...
Righto, Susan!

PEPPERONI PIZZA DAY!

On September 20th, Pepperoni Pizza Day recognizes the most popular pizza ever created. The day celebrates the pizza enjoyed by young and old alike.

While pizza comes with many different toppings, pepperoni is the single most popular pizza. Whether you like your pizza Chicago Style or New York Style, thin and crispy or deep dish, top it with pepperoni!

According to legend, Raffaele Esposito created the first pizza in June of 1889. The Queen of Italy, Margherita of Savoy, inspired the pizza maker. He created the Pizza Margherita to honor the queen and topped the pizza with tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella. The colors represented the Italian flag.

Since then, pizza has evolved. It includes a multitude of toppings from anchovies and pineapple to sausage and bacon. However, pepperoni remains the most popular.

Italian-Americans developed the ever-popular topping through time-honored sausage making techniques. Seasoned pork and beef sausage are smoked and cured. Once the product is ready to be sliced, it’s placed on a delicious pie and baked.

HOW TO OBSERVE #PepperoniPizzaDay

Enjoy a slice of Pepperoni Pizza at your favorite pizzeria with friends or family. Or, make your own at home. Either way, the meal will be fantastic!

by Dorothy Barry G2G Astronaut (2.7m points)
The wife heard the news, and since I had to go out, I stopped by Little Caesar’s. Made the wife particularly happy.
I gotta be the only one here with strong willpower. Had tortellini with homemade pesto. =)
Well, I had no idea it was Pepperoni Pizza Day, but we had a Meatlovers pizza from a local pizza place.  Pepperoni, sausage, ham, and bacon.  Does that count?
For lunch today, I ate a large pepperoni stuffed crust pizza. I ate the entire pizza while driving from Lincoln, Ne to Concil Bluffs, Iowa. That's around an hour drive.
Yes, that counts, Amy!
Paul, as much driving as you do, I am not surprised you’d be able to down a whole pizza!
As long as I get out of the truck and move around, the pizza won't migrate to my gut or butt

I had that last night for super on my birthday September 19th. I turned 60 on September 19th. Ditto to everyone on this chat.

Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Weekend chat.

I forgot it was your birthday! Hope you had a great one!
We had pizza on Friday Dorothy! Len gets double pepperoni and I get half Supreme, half ham and pineapple. Yum!!

Good morning Pip, and good morning to all of you.

Weather is cool here in Central Pennsylvania. Nice weather for walking.

I read that in 1924, one of my ancestors was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. I never heard of that before, so I am in the process of seeing what Google has to say.

Is it just my imagination, or are the number of suggestions dropping at a steady pace. It seems that way to me.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Stay safe and enjoy a good meal, a good nights rest, and a productive day.
by Rodney Long G2G6 Pilot (849k points)
Good morning, Rodney! Always glad to hear from you.

The only reason my suggestions dropped was because I really worked them over a few weeks ago. I’m hoping the number of “official” suggestions is dropping, too.

53F this a.m. Wearing my Live Fearless sweatshirt today.
Oh, the IOOF! Enjoy the journey into learning about them - I have checked into them in the past and if I recall correctly they were one of those groups that helped collect money to provide for burials for those that could not afford them. They probably did all kinds of other things too, but it's been awhile since I read up on them. Let us know what you uncover!
I will let you know Scott
There was actually a local IOOF in this area (northeast Connecticut) not that long ago. - 40 years but I have no idea if they still exist or not.
Central PA here too. I enjoyed a midday bike ride today -- beautiful out.

Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Weekend chat.

You have a great weekend Linda. Travel safe.
Yes Barry, it sure is beautiful out this weekend, and bike rides are great. The last few years I have been doing some bird watching, and enjoy the walk. We have some eagles and other raptors around, and I enjoy watching them. Raptors will soon be migrating South along the Blue Ridge.
Yes Anne, I have learned they do still exist, with lodges in many states. There is one in Connecticut, and I learned one within 15 miles of my house here in Central Pennsylvania. In my 68 years I have never heard of them.
Scott, what I learned so far is this. This Organization was started in England in the early 1700's, and came to the United States in the 1840's. A brief description of their purposes is to improve and elevate the character of mankind, help make the world a better place to live in by aiding each other, the community, the less fortunate, the youth and the elderly. They believe that people of all nations, men and women, regardless of race, nationality, religion, and social status are brothers and sisters. I just have never heard of it.
It's finally cooling down here in Kentucky Rodney. Well, somewhat lol. It seems to bounce between high eighties (F) and low nineties. We had one day at 79 that was glorious!

I hope the Suggestions are decreasing - they certainly are worked on a lot!
Hi Mindy, thanks for the reply, hope your having a good weekend.

Greetings WikiTreers!

Homefront: It's currently a cool 62oF, but 87oF is forecast for today here in beautiful Cochise County, Arizona. There is rain forecast for tomorrow and several days next week with a bit cooler temps, but today has been a gorgeous morning. One of the male hummingbirds was brave enough to share my balcony with me this morning. They enjoy the autumn sage plant and visit several times each day. The females won't stay to feast if they see me sitting outside. Next month will be five years since I moved, and I give thanks every day for being lucky to live here. I love the wide open spaces and the mountains. Every day the panorama is different due to the play of clouds and sunshine. Since my apartment faces west, I watch the sunsets every evening. Spectacular!

I've tried to return to writing but am struggling a bit. It's not writer's block, but I feel uncomfortable trying to write about this period of his life. I'm not familiar with this era of history, and my research has been unsuccessful so far.

WikiTree: This week, I've added many new profiles to our Tree thanks to my Aunt Sue. From her list of names with birth and death dates, I've been able to find supporting sources for the siblings of my grandfather and great-grandfather. Surnames like Trout, Hunter, and Burckholter that I heard as a child and knew they were somehow related, I now know how they are related to me. For me, it's much easier to see the relationships once they've been added to WikiTree. I've been trying to keep my “To Do” list updated with names of people where I can further expand their tree. For example, Cap Hunter's parents were found and are noted in his bio, but I didn't add them to the tree yet.

I've been focused on following the Mathews line, but I want to also work on the maternal side of the family by adding more about the Pyle and White genealogy.

Well I need to scoot. I must be at the Senior Center in a few and also have a Friends of the Library meeting at 10 am. Later, I'll have an enjoyable evening at an Open Mic Night.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend.

by Diane Hildebrandt G2G6 Pilot (109k points)
A busy day for you, Diane. Keep plugging away at those lines. You’re making great progress.

I’m sitting outside watching our hummers fight over the two feeders we have. They’re a good bit apart, but one particular one is sitting up in a nearby tree so he can see both and swoop down to protect his stash. They’ll be gone sometime next month.
What a treasure from your Aunt Sue!

You might want to add the [[Needs Profiles Created]] category to folks like Cap. I added quite a few before Connect-A-Thon. A couple of profiles were added. I then heard from a distant cousin -- not on WikiTree -- one of the profiles was her living mother. I've adopted the profile. The distant cousin actually has a knife that belonged to my gg aunt.
Thanks for the suggestion Kay. I didn't know I could do this as I'm still quite a newb, feeling my way around and trying my best not to make a muck. lol

I'm thankful that my Aunt Sue provided such a treasure trove of information. According to her information, the White side of the family is related to Captain Bligh through his sister. Once I start working on this side of my family, I'll post an image of the family tree she made. :)

Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Weekend chat.

Yay Aunt Sue

Jelena, I remember ol’ Ferdinand from my history classes. Always thought he had the coolest name, though Amerigo Vespucci comes close!

Simon: remember him well from my reading and news reports.

Good choice of anniversaries.

I just love the way Pip formats his week with us on the weekend chats!! Always very informative. I think I will give it a go myself...

On the Home Front:  This weekend I will be having company!! My "god-daughter" and her youngin are coming to visit. Evelyn, her daughter,  is almost three years old and she is a handful but such a delight!! So if you don't see me, I am out and about enjoying their visit.

On the Weather Front:  Another 90 degree day, when will it end! I think we had three months of above the 90's weather but now we have had no RAIN for almost two weeks... not good. Leaves are dry, turning brown and falling all over!!  Lexie (my border collie) and I will be so glad to see the temps in the 60's instead,  so we can go out in the car and walk in the park etc. without sweeting!!

On the Genealogy Front: Slowing down a bit, but still working on improving profiles, finding sources and other tasks that go along with my many projects!!  Getting ready for our yearly "Source A Thon".  I will be co-captaining the "Southern Super Sweepers" again!  Wishing all teams the best, lets outdo last year's results yes

Ok, that's a start... lets see if I have more next weekend to share. Now for pizza lol!! .

by Dorothy Barry G2G Astronaut (2.7m points)

Hot in Nashville, huh? I don’t envy you. We had a whole summer of that and about a month with no appreciable rain. It will be back in the 80s the next few days, but that’s survivable!

You had your goddaughter there before, and I remember those wonderful photos of the great time y’all had.

I’ve been slowing down a bit, too, Dorothy. Just a little worn out, but still plugging away, if at a slower pace.

Have a super weekend with your visitors!

Ditto to everyone on this chat.

Currently, it's 23˚ C and sunny in Fort Erie, heading for a predicted high of 24˚ C, an overnight low of 17˚ C, and a high tomorrow of 26˚ C.

The light of my life and the delight of my eyes is all excited over an impending visit from her youngest. It will be that child's first time out of the U.S.A., so of course I'm eager to show her just how weird we are in Canada.

Talk Like A Pirate Day came and went without any pirates getting connected. The challenge drew lots of comments, but apparently pirates weren't big on leaving official records (aka "evidence") behind. Oh, well. Maybe I should have tried something easier, like Ninjas. wink

I got an email from the administrator of the Slade Genealogy site, letting me know that he's had to change web hosts (and domains), so there are about 400 profiles that need to be updated. Oh, well. Who needs sleep? (Me. Absolutely me. When I lie awake at night worrying about WikiTree, it's time to go do something else.)

by Greg Slade G2G6 Pilot (669k points)
Greg! You sound just like me. I often lay in bed thinking about what I need to accomplish or just take care of on WikiTree!
Greg, do you want some help with updating the links? I'm currently busy updating my Madeiran Free Space with some links to profiles I was told already exist. Obviously Brits sometimes took on Madeira a break of travelling and continued their journey later to South Africa. Well, those profiles don't have to be created anymore.

Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Weekend chat.

Thank you for the offer, Jelena. When I logged in this morning, I saw that Aleš had set EditBot to fix all those links. That's going to save a ton of time for other things.
yeah, that's actually a work for the Bot. Thanks Aleš!

It's beautiful fall weather in Virginia. This week I learned that having a crown replaced is not as bad as the original. With the change in weather we have a change in eating habits, and finally had a good batch of homemade spaghetti sauce (great dinner to plan after dental work). That, of course, made me feel really old as I noticed the canning jar on the counter -- one of the commemorative editions released in 1976, which my mother bought.

I am still struggling with the ancestor who apparently married and had children between the end of the Revolutionary War and 1800 in an area in Connecticut where both town and church records have been lost. Just figures!

One of the great things about genealogy is that you are always learning something. This week I learned how to find the images for Holland Land Company transactions.

On WikiTree, I've been continuing through my watchlist to Find Ancestor Matches. I'm not finding matches, but have added sources, dates, and locations to a number of profiles. It has also been a personal mini "Unsourced-A-Thon" as I've found quite a few profiles with no sources and no tag.

by Kay Knight G2G6 Pilot (593k points)
Always busy as a bee, Kay! I also have a few of those ancestors where the documents have been lost (Tennessee census records!).

I saw a pack of canning jars at the store the other day and mentioned it to my wife. I got “that look.”
Kay, I dread dental work, but your experience makes me want to give it another try. I'm certain I need a crown at the very least somewhere, possibly a root canal elsewhere, and perhaps even a tooth pulled and a fake replacement... just not something I have ever looked forward to. Glad it worked out well for you.

Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Weekend chat.

*webswings in and nails the superhero landing*

Hey, everyone!

It was another amazing genealogical adventure this week! It all started when I wrote this blog about cousins: https://allroadhaverhill.blogspot.com/2019/09/52-ancestors-week-38-cousins.html

Yes, that's me with my cousins in 1997 with my grandmother, Natalie and yes I am holding a glass of coke like a wine glass. And in the pic at the end is me with the same people in 2007. A lot can happen in ten years. I miss my grandma. =(

Anyway, the blog was about my 4th cousin "Jenna" and how we discovered our connection. I showed her the blog and it brought her to tears. She then asked for my help again. She needed help identifying her maternal grandfather and that side of the family.

Naturally, I accepted. It didn't take long to figure it out because her birth mother shared 900 cMs with someone listed in the 1st cousin bracket. I sent a private message, checked out the tree and it turns out the lady is her birth mother's first cousin.

The first cousin had a decent tree and I did some old fashioned genealogical detective work to see what I could find. I built a tree and "Jenna" and I had to figure out who the father was.

It clearly wasn't the 900 cMs lady's father. The count would be MUCH higher. We narrowed it down to three choices. One guy was killed in action in World War 2. He couldn't have been the father as her birth mother was born in the 1960s. One guy had a large family in Florida, far away from where her birth mother was born. He was living there around the time of her birth.

Wasn't hard to figure out. The only thing is that the guy had a criminal record. I don't really want to go into details. Sufficed it to say. "Jenna" was happy. She has a new first cousin once removed. I also helped to set up the Thrulines on Ancestry for her and her birth mother by linking the DNA tests and lo and behold more identifiable matches!

What's weird is that we couldn't find out for certain if the guy was alive or not. He was born in 1921. If he IS alive, he'd be 98. It's hard to say. We can't find much information on him. But, it's okay. One more branch for "Jenna" has been discovered! I am glad I was able to help her out.

On a personal note, my own genealogical adventure continues as a descendant of MariaRosa Stella e-mailed me and is going to send me a tree which could potentially knock down some brick walls.

Not much going on on the non genealogical front. My mom made pesto sauce. I'll be using it tonight on some tortellini. Summer is trying to hang on for dear life here in NH. Good luck with that one.....

Overall a good week on the genealogy front. Now to work on my 450th comic!

by Chris Ferraiolo G2G6 Pilot (756k points)
First pic: is the cousin behind you thinking up something nefarious to do to you?

Second pic: even better than the first! Just had to laugh.

As usual, another superior blog, Chris. What a great story, and what a wonderful way you helped out. You’ve got some detective skills, you do!
Re first pic: Yeah, he was just being silly that day. No idea why.

Re second pic: There's a story with that one. It was at a graduation party and I told the cousins that they were Italian by association. So, we wanted to do this "Mafia" picture. We just felt like being silly.

Other pics we've taken has us looking in different directions. It's crazy. One cousin said "Good to know we can all look in the same direction." In fairness, usually we have like ten cameras on us when we get pics taken.

Thanks for the compliment, man. I'm not Batman, though. No crippling mommy and daddy issues. And I don't feel the need to dress in black leather. =)
Too bad you're not Batman, Chris, or I'd hit you up for a loan out of those Wayne Millions. And great photos - sounds like your family has a lot of fun taking those.
Well, Bruce spends his millions on yarns, meow mix and catnip.

It's...a personal thing.

I'll ask Stark for help. =)

Glad you like the pics. We do have a lot of fun taking them. Imagine like ten cameras on you at once all flashing. That was BEFORE we had digital cameras!
Hope you're not implying that he keeps Catman locked in a pit in the Batcave! (no... that would be just wrong...)
Someone's gotta keep Selina happy, Scott. Just saying.....

Speaking of Catwoman, they ALMOST had the two married. But, Selina said that a married Batman would be a distracted Batman. Meanwhile Superman has a kid with Lois Lane.

Bruce does have a child with one of his villains' daughters. His name is Damian Wayne and he's the current Robin. Kid's got a serious chip on his shoulder.

Superhero genealogy is weird.

Edit: Oh! It looks like Bruce and Selina are getting back together. Great!!

Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Weekend chat.

Pip, my sympathies with you about your mother, my father is 90 and behaves the same way.

The weather is supposed to be warmer than normal for the rest of this month here.

On the Home Front: Tuesday the granddaughter away at college called home and her parents hat to take her to the ER. 15 hours later they still had no good answer. Yesterday she went to an ophthalmologist, She has an infection that is causing pressure on her optic nerve and a tear in her retina. That is all we know. I did get a new computer, it is a small 2 in 1 laptop running Windows 10 with a detachable keyboard. My plan for that computer is to use it for my radio stuff. It is going to be a couple of weeks before I get that set up but it seems to work good for now. I am also doing a Babylon 5 marathon. attempting to watch every episode in the next 2 weeks.

On the Genealogy Front: I have been continuing to source some profiles that are unsourced without the template on my watchlist. In addition to that I have been trying to help with connecting Notable profiles that are unconnected and even add some profiles for recently deceased Notables, far too many have passed this month. The good news is I have also been able to reduce my watchlist, just not as much as I hoped.

by Dale Byers G2G Astronaut (1.7m points)
Whoa - sorry to hear that about the granddaughter. That's got to be some scary stuff. Glad the doctors are starting to narrow down how to address it, but it doesn't sound like it's any fun to go through. I'll add her to my thoughts and prayers.

Good to have a new computer, but I'm with you 100% - it's a pain to get from one to the other. I've always got all my stored passwords on the old one and inevitably I manage to get most if not all my data shifted, but those pesky passwords become a never ending battle.

And I've rarely watched Babylon 5 - I always end up in the middle of some episode asking "who is this guy" and "why is he acting that way". Guess I should just watch from the beginning and maybe it will make more sense.
I really need to go back and rewatch B5... I suspect there are bits of it that haven't aged well but overall it was a really solid show.  We used to attend LosCon, where jms (show creator) would sometimes bring an episode for us to watch well in advance of the actual airdate.  Fun days...
Scott, Thank you for your Thoughts and prayers for my granddaughter.

Since the new computer is not going to be used for genealogy or gaming I do not need to transfer a lot of programs, or passwords, over. This new one is a 10 inch Windows tablet with a detachable keyboard. The plan is to use it for most of my radio programming and only in an emergency for other things. But I am putting most of the programs and data I download on a removable hard drive that I can use with the new computer, my laptop, or my desktop to make moving from one computer to the next as painless as possible.

Dale, you have so much technology at your house. Any of those gadgets also mow the grass? laugh

So sorry to hear about your granddaughter. Please keep us posted!

Pip, My neighbor cuts our grass, he is actually doing it right now, and he is cheap.
Perfect!

Ditto to everyone on this chat.

Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Weekend chat.

Pip, I have always been a tech nerd, I was interested in computers back in the early 70's when PC's did not exist. I do have a few, I have a desktop that is used only for my offline tree and radio at this time, Windows 7, A laptop that I use for most other things, like WikiTree, The new 2 in 1 machine that I am setting up for my radio stuff, and 2 linux based Raspberry Pi computers that I am experimenting with. Diane has her own laptop and we stream all of out TV content, no cable or antennas. I also have a gaming computer case that very soon my one grandson and I are going to start to build a desktop gaming system, it is for him and he wants it at my house for now so that I can guide him with the build. I gave away at least 4 laptops that I can think of in the last year, kids "break" them and I fix them but they move on to better systems. I almost forgot I also have a 7 inch android tablet somewhere around the house that i have no real purpose for. We do both have smartphones, A Galaxy 9 and a Note 9 but we use them mostly as phones only because we have no landline anymore.

Greetings and Salutations, WikiTreers!

Well, a less than successful week on the bathroom remodeling, but I did get some new spackle - the old stuff was starting to harden and was very hard to work with. The new stuff went on nice and smooth and I might be ready to paint this weekend. We'll see.

My wife did put out a hummingbird feeder and she claims that one has come by once or twice. Of course by the time I come home from work, it's always gone, so very slim chance I'll ever see it. Maybe in pictures if she actually snaps one.

We've been combatting drain flies lately - those pesky critters seem to just appear out of nowhere! One really loves my wife so much it hangs around her and I'm starting to get jealous. One of us has to go and it won't be me. I've put out homemade traps (water, sugar, vinegar and dish soap) and we'll see if he falls into my nefarious trap. If not, there's always plan "B" and I intend to have plenty of bug spray handy.

On the genealogical front, the Notables and I managed to connect both deceased rockers (Eddie Money and Ric Ocasek) this week, but it was a lot of work on everyone's part to get that done. In one way I'm pretty satisfied with the work that was done. On another hand, I'm disappointed in the connection for Ric, as I had to travel through one living cousin to get to the connection. Oh well - it could be worse. I'm trying to get some time to go back to Toni Morrison's distant cousins now, hoping a connection will emerge, but so far, no luck. But I'm entering lots of family and maybe I won't find the connection, but someone will down the road.

Onwards and upwards!
by Scott Fulkerson G2G Astronaut (1.5m points)
Scott I still plan on trying to work on some of Ric's family here in Ohio as soon as I get a chance.
Thanks, Dale! I know you're typically busier than a one-armed paper hanger, so I truly appreciate any time you can provide either assistance or even lead the charge on these Notables. In fact, it's nice when I know that you're involved, as I can blink now and then and know things are happening.

Happy weekend, everyone!

Beautiful fall weather here, but I've spent most of it inside.  Too much work to do.  Yesterday my weekly skating class started up again so I finally got myself to the rink for only the second time since I broke my wrist in April.  It was really nice to be back.  Meanwhile, in the Back-to-School Virus Swap my kid got "nasty head cold," so she's been dragging for a couple of days.  And my big committee task heats up starting this afternoon; I'll have about a week to get a pile of important stuff done, on top of all the usual stuff.

So yesterday I decided it was finally time to pay a little more attention to my mom's ancestors from the Northern Neck region of Virginia.  I'm building the family out sideways to hopefully make it easier to connect DNA matches down the line.  I may regret this.  Our family names include Jett, Covington, Ball, Eskridge, Edwards, and Haynie.  The families my ancestor's siblings married into include (you guessed it...) Jett, Covington, Ball, Eskridge, Edwards, and Haynie.  Any cousins on this branch are likely to be connected to us two or three times over.  Attempting triangulation is going to be interesting.
by Lisa Hazard G2G6 Pilot (263k points)
Jett remains one of the coolest last names ever. Imagine the kind of street cred someone with that last name could have, Lis!

Good to see you back on the ice! Sucks about the cold.

Was not aware that Virginia had a neck. Let alone a northern neck. It just seems to go along the Ohio river up in the north.

Good luck with those cousin matches!
Jett is a fun one.  ("When you're a Jett, you're a Jett all the way!")  I think Joan Jett is an actual cousin, but I don't remember the exact connection...

The Northern Neck area is the peninsula between the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers.  Colonial Virginia plantation owners, mostly.  George Washington was born there, and I've got ties to his family.  And I think I've now told you just about everything I know about the place!  Guess I'll be learning more now.
Good luck with the research. =D We fly over that are when we go to Richmond to visit my brother and his family.

And yes Jett is a fun last name. Can't go wrong with that!

Ditto to everyone on this chat

Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Weekend chat.

Whoops... and I just found a major glitch in my Jett line on WikiTree!  My 5G grandfather got connected to the wrong father at some point.  Still goes back to the founding Virginia ancestor, Peter Jett, but through a different route.  All fixed now and I'm getting the bare bones of his ancestry done using a secondary source (The Jett Family of Virginia, from 1970).  It lists and quotes a lot of primary sources, so I'll be able to flesh these profiles out eventually.  For now I'll just be happy that it's not totally wrong.

Good Morning Pip and All,

On the home front: We are back in civilization - almost!! After a number of days hiding out in protected anchorages to avoid gale force winds but not escaping the very heavy rain, we got a break and found the sunshine. It was brief as now cloudy but seas are smooth as glass and winds are very mild! We will enter the US this afternoon at Friday Harbor, WA and will arrive at Oak Harbor, WA tomorrow afternoon. Then a week of work begins - stripping things from outside of boat in preparation for winter haul-out on the 30th. Packing up for the drive to Texas - I know many of you have suffered through the heat of summer but I am actually looking forward to a bit of warm weather before winter sets in. As usual, it has been a good summer but I am ready for home.

Today is youngest grandson's birthday - 12 years old. Since mine is Monday, we will have a double celebration when we get home. Hard to believe they have all grown up so fast!! Now, 19, 14 and 12 - fun kids and will be super to see them.

Genealogy front: Sometimes with only one or two bars on my cell phone, I have been able to use my hot spot and so some WikiTree adding. Another collateral branch which has turned out to be really fun. I love starting from scratch on a line as there is usually a lot of low-hanging fruit to grab! Now, I need to do more research so will be on my to do list. On my immediate list is to ease back into my Greeting job. Hope to do just a few hours this next week and then full scale once I arrive back in Texas.

Dorothy - your pizza day falls right in with our dinner tonight. We are having Friday pizza but without the pepperoni as I can't run out to the store. But, we do have sausage and ground beef plus onions, bell peppers and cheese. I make an almond flour crust that is really tasty.

I hope everyone has a super week-end and hope all your teams win!!
by Virginia Fields G2G Astronaut (1.2m points)
Hmm? Almond flour crust? Homemade? Or is that one you can buy in the store? You have my curiosity going now...
Scott, Homemade crust. Really easy. Have never seen the almond crust in a store but have seen cauliflower crusts.
Almond crust sounds good. My personal pizza maker (hubby) hasn't baked up a pizza in a while .... he gets the dough from the bakery. Maybe we are due for some.

We spent a couple of days in Friday Harbor a couple of years ago,  lovely little town.

Ditto to everyone on this chat.

Hello from the beautiful west coast!

I am still learning so much about WikiTree -- there's a lot to learn! Today, I am trying to learn more about photos. I do like photography and was trying to participate in the cemetery challenge this month, so it would be handy to know more.
by Peggy Watkins G2G6 Pilot (826k points)
Hi Peggy, Love the photo of the cat behind the boots. Hope you do not mind as I edited the photo and placed the wording above it.

Ditto to everyone on this chat. I had one cat that lived to be 20 years old and died around easter time. Plus I had another one that died when she was 22 years old.

Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Weekend chat.

Hello neighbor!
Darn it, Alex. I just checked for the fun of it, and we aren’t (yet) related or (yet) connected!
Hi Alex!
Doesn't look like I'm related to Alex either or you Pip, for that matter!
... except of course, we are all cousins!

Double darn it, Peggy! sad

So sorry about your kitty... she looks like a sweetie.
Don't worry,  Pip. You are still one of my favorite cousins!

Greetings from Everett, Washington!

I am fighting like mad the telephone tag and ID number obsessed bureaucrats who stand between my son and his keeping his little job with the Health Department.  It being Friday afternoon, none of said bureaucrats is interested in being around to answer questions.  Son has until the end of the month to take (another) background check to keep his job.  An appointment has to be made for said background check and the ID number he gave for his certificate came back "file not found."  Since then we've been playing voicemail tag to find the approved ID number which he needs just to schedule the appointment.  Son blew up at me for not knowing how to minimize screens on his computer (his anxiety issues, Asperger's, though I may have some of that too) and I was in tears for a while but I saw it through as far as we could until we hit the brick wall of silence. I need also to mention that son has a terrible cold that induces coughing at the slightest attempt at speech.

Since then I have been taking consolation in creating Wikitree profiles.  No pepperoni for us (it's a Friday and an Ember Day to boot).  But I did make almond flour pancakes that were well received by son and daughter this morning.

It’s the Quilting Queen of Everett! So glad hear from you each week, Margaret.

Margaret, so sorry about your troubles. You just hang in there. So many here love you to death and care about you... me included.

Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Weekend chat.

Thank you, Pip.  Breaking news: my husband is buying me a new computer. This one is 10 years old.  He dragged me to Best Buy last night to talk to the Geek Squad.  I have to clear EVERYTHING off this table today.  Then I will be WITHOUT A COMPUTER for a few days while the transfer is made.  Oh goodness, whatever shall I do? At least I can follow G2G on my phone but the words are tiny.  Then if all goes well I will be back on Wikitree sometime next week.  Saint Isidore of Seville, patron of information gatherers, pray for us!
I am soooo excited for you, Margaret!! A new computer! I transferred all my stuff manually. Fortunately, the new one was in place when my laptop died. Got a new one of those, too. I don’t know what I’d do without one of them. Working on my iPad ain’t enough for WikiTree stuff.

Let us know next week how it all turns out. Can’t wait to hear!
Does your local library have computers for public use?  That
might be a short term solution if you get desperate for wikitree news.

Today's been very odd here on the South coast. Not a cloud in the sky all day and quite hot for September, but the wind has been strong enough to make walking difficult. Our favourite, hidden, waterside smuggler's pub has a high hedge all round the garden so we were still able to sit out in comfort. September is, of course, wasp time but there weren't many about, just one in fact. We have small appetites now so I couldn't eat all my grilled chicken, just pushed the plate away and finished my coffee. When the wasp landed on the plate we didn't flick it away, just watched. It loved the chicken, prodded and poked away for ages then took flight with a piece about the size of a match head in it's jaws. I have never seen that before, been too busy shooing them away. Ten minutes later it, or a friend,  was back and flew off with an even bigger piece. Fascinating. We were quite disappointed when someone came to clear the plates. Then we took ourselves to Warblington Church which is next to the remains of the Castle where Margaret Pole was arrested. It's a lovely little church, never open sadly, but quiet and close to the shore. We've been there quite often but only study a couple of headstones as we've no-one there. Well, so I thought. For some reason himself stopped to study a prosperous looking grave and pushed aside the weeds. Robert Miller Mundy. I know that name. His daughter married the cousin of my husband's grandfather. I've known about him for years, our first notable of sorts, his wife's on the Plantagenet role. I did not know they were buried there. Just for my US friends, Robert's mother was Catherine Barwell and her brother cut down the Liberty Tree so I hear tell. Camera out, battery flat. Grrrr. But it does mean we'll have to go back before the dull days take hold. Lovely day.
by C. Mackinnon G2G6 Pilot (332k points)
Battery flat: a curse. My wife keeps a charger in her car for that very reason. But, like you said, it’s a nice excuse for a trip back.

If the Warblington Cemetery is the same as I saw in Google Maps, its rather huge!
Well it's not a chapel but it's quite small for round here. A young friend married there years ago and it is quite intimate inside. It's also got a very unusual roof shape, so pretty. Ah, the cemetery is huge. I think it is a Civic Cemetery now used by the citizens of Chichester. The churchyard is quite small, however and most of the inscriptions on the headstones have worn away. Soft stone and sea air don't mix. Sadly what remains of the castle is on private land.
Sad on both counts.

Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Weekend chat.

Hubby's just agreed to a couple of nights in the posh B&B that was once Robert's home. Years ago we stayed at the B&B in north Wales that was once the retirement home of hubby's gg grandparents and their several spinster daughters. Felt a bit weird at first but it was a great experience imagining what it was like for them to live there.

Good evening!

On the weather front, you feel fall is coming. During the days it's still nice and warm, but when the sun set or just rose in the morning, it's quite coolish already.

On the personal front, it's a mixed week. One of my Serbian cousins had a stroke that obviously affected the left side of his body.

I talked about it last weekend and we were in the Maths museum. That museum is great for kids. You can play in there and try out what they want you to see. But sometimes you don't have the patience to try until you finish the task. Then a picture/text with the solution would be good. But that wasn't there unfortunately. But we had a great day. We met with my aunt and spent a nice afternoon with her.

On the genealogy front I expanded a bit my tree using the newly published Online-family-books of the town beside my greatgrandmother's town (the ones where I found my 4x greatgrandparents recently). Pedigree collapse on that branch makes things sometimes a little bit confusing, but at least I don't have to do only that, there are different projects I can work on.

On WikiTree I added a bit of family to the wife of Paul von Hindenburg, kicking away some "Wikidata clue for parents" suggestions. And I did the same also for Mileva Marić-Einstein, using the small biography we have about her. That is actually a question I have: "How to deal with Wikidata clues for parents-suggestions when the only source you have is Wikipedia?" I mean, fortunately I found/had other sources for the folks I entered, but what are you supposed to do if you can't find other sources than wikipedia, no matter how extensive you look for other (more reliable) sources?

And then there was yesterday the question about Space Pages on G2G. I explained and linked to my Madeiran Records' page and when I checked my mails today, I saw someone sent me a pm about profiles he created for a friend and found some names on my list there. Ok, so some more names have links to profiles now. Great news....

Enjoy the weather (most of us seem to have quite reasonable weather this weekend) and have a great weekend.

by Jelena Eckstädt G2G Astronaut (1.4m points)
I remember you mentioning that museum last weekend. I feel your frustrations.

There’s got to be more for von Hindenburg, some kind of documents. Too famous not to have more and secondary sources. Keep on the hunt.

Weather's still hot and dry most of the time here in Central Florida. Today was the dentist and now bookkeeping for our local GenSoc (I'm the Treasurer). This week has been more and more bookkeeping as the US Federal personal tax extension draws near. But ... I had meals/meetings with three members of my advisory/mentor/mastermind group. Love getting together with them as the ideas flow and laughter ensues.

Not much personal genealogy going on as I've been working on 5* Elias Hicks and linked profiles. But there's change on the horizon ... next Saturday I get in a car and run away with my fella for a few days. We're heading for the Blue Ridge to spend some quality deck and holler time. I told him I had to be back by Friday morning for the Source-a-Thon LOL

Hi Pip and WikiKin.  Thanks Pip for hosting.  Not going to say much as I'm just exhausted - broken water heater in one of the rentals and when I went to fix it the pipe burst and flooded half the apartment before I could turn the water off.  It has been a long day.

This week on the Genealogy front, nothing.

Been working some 5 star efforts and some Ranger follow up but not much "fun" WikiTreeing again this week.

On an up note, the skies cleared and the sun came out and we have had spectacular weather all week - I've been swimming in the sea almost every day.

Looking forward to coming back tomorrow morning and reading everyone's answers.

Been worried about you and all that rain in southern Spain!

Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Weekend chat.

Nothing like one week swimming in the streets - the next, swimming in the sea. Spain sounds like a very interesting country. My wife has been there, my Dad got to visit, but sadly I have not. Maybe one day...
Scott, I’ve got a hankering to do the same. Like you: maybe one day...

I turned 70 a few weeks ago and I stained an entire deck with rails and stairs, yesterday, about nine hours of work. I do hurt just a WEE bit today. I have to put a second coat on tomorrow. (rolling eyes)
by Anne B G2G Astronaut (1.3m points)
Yikes!

Don't over do it, Anne.
Take it easy. My mom's about that age and does staining in phases.
My wife did the exact same last spring at 68. Yeah, she was feeling it, too!

It’s a nice weekend in Denver. We are getting a cold front so first freeze warnings are going up in parts of the mountain trains. Here it is breezy.  So this weekend is peach picking time. The harvest is late by 5 weeks due to late spring blooms. No bicycling this week after last week.  Sitting on a donut to heal. Ran into a bunch of tarantulas and I noticed that there is festival for them coming up. It’s mating season and they are very active.
by Gurney Thompson G2G6 Pilot (443k points)
Denver is a really nice place. We took the train through and stopped overnight, lovely walkable downtown and really nice train station. The scenery heading West of Denver was some of the best of the trip -- spectacular!

Rest up and enjoy your peaches.
I bet you’re using that donut, as much as you have cycled lately!

Welcome everyone to the WikiTree Weekend chat.

One more day of cool weather and then slightly warmer again. We might make it through September without a frost! I didn't know there were tarantulas in the Denver area.

And bubonic plague just north of there, according to news reports I hear recently. frown

A relatively common occurrence in the west. Prairie dogs seem to be a common place to find it.

The tarantulas are in the southeast part of the state. The festival is near Pueblo and between Pueblo and eastwards to La Junta seems to be where a lot are. Here is an article about the migration from last year.

https://www.outtherecolorado.com/thousands-tarantulas-march-colorado-valley/

That makes more sense to me since I had never seen them in all the years of traipsing around the Front Range. Thanks for the article.
