In "The Centennial History of Oregon 1811-1912", Volume 3, by Joseph Gaston you will apparently find reference of the marriage of Frank Byrd to Carrie Luella Heacock of Multnomah County. I don't have a copy for full details but you could probably get this through your local library service. Hopefully you will find clues as to Frank's origins.

It also seems to me that Frank Byrd was born in Oregon, from the census records I've seen (I'm assuming I'm looking at the right person...)

Marriage to a Heacock is the ONLY info I have on Frank Byrd. Sorry.
