Does anyone know how or where to obtain information about court cases in Scotland during the 1960s and 70s please?

I have found an article from 1968 about a court case in Aberdeen involving James Norval.

I cannot find any other articles about it, can anyone tell me where else to look for more information please?

The article (it's also available on Findmypast if you have a subscription) says that James Norval appeared in Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court records are held by the National Records of Scotland in Edinburgh.  However the catalogue entry states "From 2013 all criminal and civil consistorial actions concerning families have now been closed for 100 years."

Given the nature of the crime he was charged with, I think that James Norval's case would fall under these rules and you would need a very good reason (not just genealogy) to access these records.

Can you give us a summary of the news article or what the court case related to? Is it a criminal or civil court case?

Or can you share a link to the news article?

Where you look for a court case depends on what type of case it is, so we maybe able to narrow your search, if you are able to share a little detail.

Hi Fiona

This is the link to the article.

https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/BL/0000578/19681030/220/0013?browse=False

It's the one titled 'Glenkindie man's case continued'

Many thanks

Julie

That link takes me to their sign-up page.  I suspect it's because it is behind a paywall.

Since you have obviously been able to see it, can you confirm that everybody mentioned is deceased? We can't discuss living people here in G2G, sorry.

James Norval died in 1986. It doesn’t give any other names in the article to be able to confirm if they are alive or not, or even if they are known!
Regards
Julie
