Trying to find Rhodesian Air Force records

This profile is for my grandfather.

He was a Warrant Officer in the Royal Rhodesian air force.

I am attempting to find his military records. I have asked family members and we have no such thing.

Could anyone assist in helping me track such down? I have tried Google every which way. Apparently these records were never computerised. So I have lost hope somewhat.

Where did William die... any idea.  There are several William Grants on the Zimbabwe Death registry.  None of them died circa 1975.  There are no Death Notice for either Grant or Alcock.  Principle source on Rhodesian Airforce is “A Pride of Eagles” by Beryl Salt.  No references there either.  I would like to understand which surname he used when in the Air Force.  How did he come to be known as Alcock and Grant.

Next trick is to write to Defence Headquarters, but before one does that we would need a force number.  Any idea if he was a pilot or if he was in the ranks?

Andrew
Hi Andrew,

Thank you for the questions.

He died of a heart attack in Oranjemund, Namibia (I mention this as most of the registries seem to concern themselves with war deaths). He is of Scottish heritage, it would seem he took names from both his paternal line and maternal line, but went primarily by Grant. Although we, his descendants, all go by Alcock.

I have some info going back as far as his great grandparents but I doubt much of this would be of value as it is all Scottish info.

He was a Warrant Officer, is all that I know. My grandmother is woefully short on information.

Could you perhaps give me a link? All of the results I have found on google are woefully incomplete.

The National Trust of Zimbabwe (http://ntoz.org/) may be able to tell you where the records are most likely to be, or know that they were destroyed.
