What is your question?
Hi! Sorry, I was trying to learn more about badges by doing a G2G search, think I hit the wrong button. However, since I got your attention...Can you tell me if there are also "badges" that attach to profiles when one is discovered to be a Revolutionary War soldier?

That would be a sticker, not a badge.  smiley

You can add stickers / templates to profiles and fill in what the military information is (unit / war / whatever) depending on the sticker / template.  (American wars are not my thing, so someone else will need to fill in the details.)

This community is so cool. heart

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, Melanie.

Colleen, if you edit your question, you can add tags such as: american_revolutionary_war

1776

united_states

military_and_war

(you need the underscores)

This way folk who follow those tags will see your question and better be able to assist regards specifics.

Ok got it, I am so happy to learn the nuances of how the site works.

Well, that is optimistic! smiley

Edit:  But please continue to ask when you have questions.  I'm not sure anyone has ever said that WikiTree is easy.

Okay, I used the {{1776|Category=American Revolution}} just under the box line what says IN EDIT MODE

 == Biography ==
{{1776| Category = American Revolution}}

and voila, a sticker tag label template whatsis appeared on his profile (James Howell-8262) and D.A.R. / S.A.R. has the details of his record thereof ...

I used to have them but that was back before three computer crashes

This will work (I just tried it).  Input it at the top of the Biography section using edit mode.

{{1776| category = American Revolution}}

Edit:  See Linda Peterson's answer for another option.

Success! That was fun, thanks Julie smiley

Melanie, it seems odd because the sticker I added says it's a category.  I'm not sure how the interaction works.  When I go to the link you provided, my ancestor is not there, but if I click on the sticker, it takes me to a new category.  Usually stickers don't reference categories.  Can you clarify?

Edit: Sorry, I didn't mean that I clicked on the sticker.  But when I added the stickers to two of my Revolutionary ancestors, that also added a category:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:American_Revolution
Some stickers do also add categories.
Now I see that we have two different categories for the American Revolution.  Maybe someone can explain.  I know the categories are complicated!

@ Julie .. categories SCARE me!  surprise  I only add what I know, or can easily find.

(I think, but may be wrong, that the stickers that add categories are called templates.  A lot of the Military and War "stickers" are templates.)

No, they're still called stickers.

This is why I stay away from them!  surprise

I think stickers are one form of template.  As far as categories go, I would suggest another G2G thread if I thought it would do any good.  But it seems that WikiTree's categories are a jungle.  A few months ago, when I was new to WikiTree, I spent hours scrolling around the categories to see how they worked.  It helped, somewhat.
adding 1776 sticker will add a category, so an additional category is not needed. Which category will be added is explained in the 1776 sticker Usage instructions page.

This is the Help page for all the Wars or Veteran Recognitions, I think, that have stickers, etc.  I keep this page bookmarked.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Stickers_for_Veterans

It looks like the 1776 Usage instructions got dropped, so here is that page

Bookmarking now, thank you, Linda yes

Linda's second link is to a page explaining a more detailed Revolutionary War sticker that includes service branch, rank, and dates of service.
They fixed the Veterans sticker page so the 1776 usage instructions are now included on that page, so you only need that one to get to all of them.
