I tried yesterday to link two brothers profiles but they would not link up

Question

JOB BATES -ID 4911 and JOHN BATES_ID 4622, comes up invalid ID No's I have tried this morning to link their father EDWARD - ID 4933 but the same invalid ID comes up?

It looks like you've created two profiles for the father, Bates-4924 and Bates-4933, that represent the same person.  So the thing to do is going to be to merge these two profiles, Bates-4924 and Bates-4933.  I have proposed a merge for you.  Try to see if you can complete the merge.  Afterwards post a message back here.  Then you can be helped to take care of the children.

Maybe you don't know what a merge is!  Scroll down and look at the bottom left corner of the page of the profile of either of these two profiles.  You should see pending merges.  Click compare and go from there, if it is like I think, then merge them by selecting merge which is near the top center of the screen.

Hello Vincent, I pulled the matching & merging & it states:

ID 1 and undneath ID 2, I want Bates 4924 to be the one remaining profile therefore do I put this ID into ID 2?

Since I have already proposed the merge, from either profile you can scroll down to the bottom and there you will see Pending Merges, you can already click merge and they will line up side by side. Bates-4924 will be the numbered profile that comes from the merge.  As you do the merge, you will get choices which you can make by selecting the boxes on the left side during the merge.  The resulting profile of Bates-4924 will now be the father of all three children

I have checked my watch list and Edward Bates-ID 4924 is the only one now and the three children I had entered are now listed.

Try copy and pasting the ID number from the two profiles. You can't copy it from the top, but just below the left side data section (below died) is an orange highlighted section with the ID-number. Copy and paste that in the add siblings page.

The ID consists of the last name followed immediately by a hyphen followed by the number. It is case sensitive. Bates-4911 Bates-4622 Bates-4933
