Explaining the Explanation

The site, I understand that it has issues loading.  But, when it comes to explaining corrections, how are we (Data Doctors) suppose to explain correctly when the data isn't copying what I typed to explain?

Gee, I'm hoping this make since...

Just noticed this while trying to explain in a public comment to a manager.  I type ==Sources== and save, proof read, and it comes out =Sources= .

And, an ongoing issue explaining in the "Explain your Changes."  For example:  863 Missing <references /> tag, comes out like this -> 863 Missing tag.

Heavy sigh...

Same thing happens when you send a private message to someone.  The Wiki markup is being used.

You might be able to put <nowiki> in front of the 'wiki code' and then </nowiki> at the end of it

Adding the 'nowiki' around the 'code' doesn't help in the comments, at least.  It might in the private messages though

Edited - spelled nowiki incorrectly, but it didn't change anything

It looks like the comment on a profile will allow the <ref>, </ref>, and <references/> to be used, but I know they get wiped out when Private message is sent.

I tried putting the Sources with equal signs into quote (single and double), but it still wouldn't show it properly in a profile comment

Private Message is not allowing the ref tags to go through whether the <nowiki>  ....  </nowiki> is around them or not.

The == Sources == does go through in a private message correctly, but none of them work correctly on the comment on a profile.

I found some while ago I could not use "<references />" in the explain field, so now I just use "references tag".

Am I to understand you are trying to include html/wikimarkup codes into the "Explain your changes" change log field?

That really should not be allowed. Sounds like WikiTree is doing some limited sanitation when you try.

That's how hackers break into websites/databases and steal data.

Just use your words to explain your change.

I'm guessing what was tried was similar to what I tried .. copy and paste the suggestion text as the explanation.  The suggestion text includes the < /> as part of it.  You would have to know in advance to NOT include the < />, which I did not until it was stripped.

I noticed that problem too and so I just paste the words and then remove the markup. So it will come out looking like this ...

"863 Missing references tag"

For =Sources= I would put it in caps or quotations instead.

Different but it gets the point across about it being a section title.
