20 degrees here. 10th cousins says the relationship finder. We both, apparently, descend from Thomas Greene, governor of Colonial Maryland. A great granddaughter, in my case, married into the Peregoy/Pedigo family from which I descend.

Ah, 16 degrees here ... my papa, his granny Caroline WOOTEN, her maternal gdfather John Lee to his sister Caroline (Lee) Lane's grand daughter Patience to .. and then I waded through some FLOYD and a few other Smith (none of them my Smith) and voila I tripped and fell over Cheryl.

Connection finder says 18 degrees but it is certainly rather closer; her 4th great-grandfather is Samuel Willett (my 1st cousin 6X removed), who has an unmerged duplicate profile (Samuel Willett's wife was Mary Dant whose grandfather John Dant is my 7th great-grandfather; we're also certainly related through Mills and Abell, so at least 7th cousins on two different lines, 8th cousins on another and several other relationships).

I'll certainly be able to help connect your ancestors with roots in colonial Maryland--I have pretty extensive research with colonial Maryland, especially Catholic families; from what I can find it looks like you and I share potentially a dozen common ancestors (lines other than those listed above: Thompson, Mattingly, Spalding, Burch...most of those connections don't seem to be on Wikitree yet).

I don't know how many steps apart we are. But we are 15th cousins 1 time removed with 328 common ancestors. No wonder we get along in our brief interactions.
