I see the adopt this profile button.  Were you signed in to Wiki when you tried to adopt the profile?
its less of a button, and more of a link

It is absolutely a link, not a button:

OK, it's a link and not a button.  What is the functional difference?
Wow Robert,

It's great you'll be able to adopt your father's profile!!   I know we're all collaborators here at WikiTree,  but there's something special about being the manager for your own parent's profile.

@ Julie .. none, functionally.  It's a visual thing.  If someone is looking for a button, when they see a link they may not equate the two.  Same thing if someone is looking for a link, when they should be looking for a button.  (The "Add comment" and "Cancel" on our G2G posts are buttons.)

Call it a "button" or "link"  the layman (OK Laywomandevil) like me will be well guided by Julie's  response.

However,  tonight I'm in a  "mood"..... just noticed I got my 10th down vote!!!    This is by far the most controversial comment or answer I've made in a month! crying

OK,  I'm a big girl.  Stiff upper lip and all that.

And you haven't given out a single one!

You know what Gaile says about down votes, don't you?
Would love to hear what Gaile says about down votes!

"Another number I wear with a mixture of pride and amusement is my nearly 200 downvotes - I take that as confirmation that I say what is, whether or not it's what people want to hear."

Edit:  I should make it clear that I was quoting Gaile here.  And Gaile, I hope you don't mind!

Actually perfect.
I'm impressed!

You may not be able to adopt his profile because it is Private.  You will have to email info@ wikitree.com and explain the situation. :)

There are also two sons, both Robert Chewning Jr.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Chewning-192

Both members of WT .. both Volunteers and Honor Code signatories.

Robert, Ros is absolutely correct.  Even though there is the link Melanie illustrated to adopt the profile, it won't let you do that - you have to write to info @ wikitree.com (without the spaces).

Also, it looks like you have two profiles for yourself, as Melanie pointed out.  If that is correct then you will have to merge them and, since you're an active member, you need to write to that same email address to do that, so you might also include that when you write to them.

Some change made to the profile today has locked it, as I'm pretty sure I checked the change log earlier — plus my screencap shows it was last modified 10 Oct 2019

(Now it shows 10 Oct 2019 16:19: Ros Haywood answered a question about Robert Chewning [Thank Ros for this])

The button is in the gold strip just above the green section that is just above the Biography section.

Yep, it's Orphaned and it's marked with a colored Padlock it is PRIVATE so it cannot be adopted.

Someone with clout will have to go in and kick it loose before you can adopt it.

it wasn't private earlier today... someone must have made a change to it
