Yes we do... its called the Suggestions Report, and it (re)checks once a week.

Suggestions report is fine if you don't want it now.
Better to have it in a few days than never. But I agree that it would be nice to catch some of the subtler inconsistencies such as "duplicate use of named tag" at creation time.

Are you wanting someone to check something for you?

I want a validator for on-the-fly profile checks.
there was recently added some syntax highlighting in the editor that should help with those on-the-fly checks.

Bree, to the best of my knowledge we don't have one.  There are the checks that are made when you click the SAVE button before your changes are recorded … when you get big yellow or red bars with warnings about data items like missing genders or dates that are inconsistent with other family members.

Recently, I noticed that these checks also include making sure that all <ref> tags have a </ref> tag after them and that's one of the ones that won't permit you to SAVE ANYWAY - you have to correct it before you're permitted to save your changes.  I'm not sure how far the check is carried, though - for example, if you have a <ref name="something" /> tag, I don't know if the check will ensure that you have a <ref name="something"> … </ref> somewhere else (where the same "something" is used).

Ok that's what I'm getting at. I don't keep up with the backend but I got an email saying something about crafting ref tags and the number of characters involved. ... That doesn't get checked in the save as you say. ... I was hoping there was a validator so I could check that to make it easy for me ... without having to dig through the help pages.
Have you tried the new enhanced editor?  It supposedly highlights things.  (I have NOT tried it, so this is not first-hand knowledge.)
I'm a fan of plain vanilla text editors and mark-up, so I haven't tried the editor. But I'll check it out.
I am a fan of the "normal" edit screen, which is why I have not tried it.  (Too many bad experiences with WYSIWYG type edit boxes.)
The Enhanced Editor would be good if it weren't so slow. I just don't have the patience to wait for it to load.
The error with number of characters won't show up on preview.  The error code was established to prevent the use of Ibid or Idem, since we are editing profiles the order the the sources might get really wonky.  Named reference tags are automatically long enough. <ref name="name">
That explains it a bit more but I need to see what causes the error code. Since I use the old tag <ref name=tag0123 /> ... I don't get flags during save, so a validator will help me figure out what the Data Doctors are talking about:D

The preview button is extremely useful for checking that your code actually works.
