Has anyone consider forming Projects about each State?

Question

Been thinking perhaps starting Project about Maine. Wonder what is the best way of starting something?  Only asking, I'm related to soooo many tree lines upto 4-times in some. Just thought would add bit history how in State that a person can be related to soooo many tree groups..

Wouldn't the US Project be due for a makeover, and instead of sub-projects, that it be broken up into Teams? This would parallel what has happened in other projects.

It's probably structured that way because the individual states are so huge; size of a country, with counties within.

Hmm. I don't necessarily buy that answer. The Cemeteries project reorganized around teams. There are teams per state.

Eric, I don't believe this is something that will happen anytime soon in the United States.

Talks of revamping the United States (then US History) project actually started in February of this year. After months of work and planning, and a couple live-chat sessions, a proposal was created and formally submitted for review with all Project Leaders in April. The goal was to streamline the project into the emerging team structures you see now in other projects (i.e. England and Cemeteries) and was met with positive comments. A few other projects immediately starting adopting the ideas and have since revamped into this team-based structure.

Unfortunately, the proposal that initially had wide support (and had already been implemented and was working in other areas) was quickly questioned by a few and left to stall.

Each of the individual U.S. states has at least one project (some have more than one) that was started in May 2016 (or earlier) as a sub-project of the then-new United States Project. A few of the state projects are set up with their own project accounts and project boxes, but most of them (including Maine) are simply sub-projects of United States, and all of the state projects share the same United States Project badge, which currently (as of this minute) has 747 badgeholders. Some state projects have Project Leaders, but most of the state projects are set up with leadership by Project Coordinators, or had Project Coordinators at some time in the past. There has been intensive interest in several of the state projects (primarily for some of the original colonies on the eastern seaboard, plus Texas), but a number of the state Project Coordinators have told me that they had little or no interaction with other members. Member interest is the main thing that determines the level of project activity. The Maine Project is one that has created some worthwhile information materials and would surely welcome more involvement by interested WikiTreers.
